CIVIC LEADERS VISIT NEW TRAINING CENTRE AT PORTLAND BILL

7 November 2012 The lookout at Portland Bill was recently visited by the Mayor of Portland, Councillor Sylvia Bradley who announced in May, when she was elected as Mayor, that NCI Portland Bill would be her chosen charity for the year. Councillor Bradley was entertaining other Dorset Mayors by giving them a tour of the Isle of Portland. Some confessed that, even though they live in Dorset, they had never been to Portland Bill before.

A coach with 32 Civic leaders arrived. They were welcomed at the station’s recently opened Training Centre by Station Manager, Geoff Peters, who gave a brief history of NCI and described to the visitors the visual surveillance work undertaken by the 65 trained volunteers at Portland Bill.

The group were then split in two, half being given a tour of the watch room whilst the remainder were shown a DVD in the Training Centre by Deputy Station Manager, John Watts. This was the first time the new building had been used for such an event as it had only recently been furnished.
