19th March 2018. A cordon was put up on Hive Beach near NCI Lyme Bay after the discovery of an ammunition case.
Coastguard Officers from West Bay had to contact the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team after the discovery of an ammunition case at Hive Beach near Burton Bradstock. They took pictures of the case, which turned out to be empty. Another empty case was discovered after a further search of the beach and it is still not clear where they came from.
The National Coastwatch Institution at Lyme Bay confirmed that a further number of cases were spotted in the sea. A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said: "If you do find a suspicious item on the beach, do not touch or disturb it. Remember or mark the location of the item as best you can, get away from the area, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
