21st June 2017. The volunteers who help keep Exmouth’s water-user’s safe have announced that they will be extending their hours to provide extra cover during the summer months.
The National Coastwatch Institution station at Exmouth is to provide continuous cover between 8.30am and 7pm every dayof the week, between July 1st and September 3rd. The station says this has been made possible by an increase in the number of volunteer watchkeepers, who have completed their training in watchkeeping and obtained their VHF radio licences. These additional members will allow NCI Exmouth to perform three three-and-a-half hour watches to be carried out every day, each with two watchkeepers on duty,
A spokesperson for the NCI said: “Exmouth Coastwatch has been aware of the number of vessels leaving earlier in the mornings and returning in the evenings outside our previous operating hours. We feel sure that these extended hours will provide an improved service to both the boating community and beach users of the Exe estuary.”
