23rd July 2019. The sharp-eyed volunteers at the National Coastwatch Institution station at Caister raised the alarm when they spotted two kayakers heading into danger.

The watch keepers on B watch at NCI Caister observed two green kayaks North of the station heading in a SE direction. Once the kayaks had crossed over the Caister Shoal and were heading for the shipping channel, in which there was a vessel heading North, it was decided to call HM Coastguard who asked the watch keepers to continue to monitor the kayakers. HMCG paged Caister lifeboat and the Inshore Lifeboat was launched to recover them. The initial reaction from the two males was that they were okay, but after advice from ILB crew they agreed to be brought back to the station. One of the males was weakening by this timeacnd his inflatable kayak had also sprung a leak so both were brought ashore by the ILB. The watchkeepers were unaware that the kayaks were inflatable from such a distance. This was a brilliant result and a potential disaster was averted. Well done to the eagle-eyed watchkeepers at NCI Caister and once again superb response from Caister Lifeboat.
