26th January 2018. The NCI station at Nare Point have received a generous donation from a local pub
Staff and customers at the Halfway House at Rame have raised £1,600 over the past nine months which has now been handed over to the National Coastwatch Institution to help towards the cost of new equipment for the charity's watch station at Nare Point. Members of the NCI, including Len Jepp, Station Manager at Nare Point, which sits at the mouth of the Helford, popped along to the pub to collect a cheque and say thank-you.
When Nick Heaton and his partner Ali Dugdale took over the pub last spring, they decided they wanted to raise money for a specific local charity each year. The NCI was their choice for their first year and with the support of their customers they raised the £1,600 through raffles, quiz nights and discounted meals.
The NCI watch station at Nare Point is one of the busiest in the country, yet a lot of the equipment used by the volunteers is ten years old, with some of it being second hand when bought. The pub's donation will be put towards the cost of replacing some of it.
Now that Nick and Ali have handed over the proceeds of last year's fundraising, they are kick-starting a new appeal. They now hope to raise £3,000 to buy a defibrillator which would be located at the nearby Post Office and would serve people living in Rame, Edgcumbe, Longdowns and Carnkie, as well as passing motorists and their passengers.
