NCI WOOLTACK POINT VISIT MILFORD HAVEN PORT AUTHORITY

26th September 2019. Over the last two weeks, volunteer watchkeepers from NCI Wooltack Point have made a couple of separate visits to Milford Haven Port Authority's (MHPA) facilities in Milford Haven

Alistair Smith, Station Manager of NCI Wooltack Point said “As one of our main concerns is monitoring the high volume of crude and LNG traffic, it made sense that we should visit and learn more about the operations that the Authority conduct in this major UK energy hub. It also gave us the opportunity to explain in more detail the work that we carry out at Wooltack Point”.

The first visit was to MHPA's back up facility at Milford Docks, where the Assistant Harbourmaster showed watchkeepers the Sail Loft Simulation Training Centre: a facility to aid in the training of docking, tugs and pilot boats etc.  A week later, the Assistant Harbourmaster showed watchkeepers around the main MHPA building in Hakin, where they were taken to the main operations room and explained how traffic is safely controlled coming in and out of the Haven. Alistair commented “The visits were both very interesting and informative, giving all of us a far greater insight into the workings of the Port of Milford Haven.”
