PORTLAND BILL WINS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

10 March 2009 Congratulations to NCI Portland Bill on winning the Volunteer of the Year Award organised by the Wessex Charity Awards. The award, presented at a Gala dinner held at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, was one of the most hotly contested of the inaugural Wessex Charity Awards which attracted some 200 applicants. It is intended to celebrate the work of staff and volunteers of the many charities and not for profit organisations that operate throughout the Wessex region.

NCI Portland operates 12 hours a day 365 days a year with 60 volunteer watchkeepers. The station was involved in 29 incidents during 2008 and logged over 14,000 vessels.

Commenting on the award, Geoff Peters, NCI Portland Bill Station Manager said:

“I was amazed with the comments I received on the night from the judging panel in support of us and took great pride in accepting this award on behalf of both our dedicated volunteers and the NCI”.
