8 April 2013 One of West Cornwall’s most isolated and exposed lookout stations has been re-opened following a major refurbishment. NCI Cape Cornwall is situated at the very end of the Cape overlooking the Brisons Rocks. Over 50 years of exposure to the elements had caused significant damage to this former coastguard lookout and only a major restoration to the largely wooden building would enable it to remain open and operational.
Raising the finances before the work could be carried out has taken several years but the net result is a highly impressive lookout fit for purpose both internally and externally.
The new watch station was re-opened by Andrew George, Member of Parliament for the (West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly) Constituency of St Ives, who had originally opened the station as an NCI lookout back in 1996. He expressed his admiration for the important contribution made by NCI towards ensuring the safety of the public and the valuable assistance it provides to the Search and Rescue organization.
