31 Mar 2011 - A second visit within a month has been made by a Member of Parliament to an NCI lookout station. Following the visit of Oliver Letwin MP to NCI Lyme Bay, Stephen Gilbert MP for St Austell and Newquay, pictured, has paid a visit to NCI Charlestown.
He met with Station Manager Chris Eddy and Deputy John Scott. During the course of a sunny afternoon, he was given a detailed insight into the work of NCI and how it is achieved by dedicated volunteer watchkeepers with the support of their local communities. He was particularly interested in the manner in which NCI integrates with its Search and Rescue partners at both local and national level. Stephen reported that MPs in Cornwall were all working together to support the south west maritime community.
Stephen’s visit followed the recently installed operational facility fitted as part of major improvements to the station’s radio communications equipment together with monitors to control the “green power” generated by a new solar system at the lookout.
