NCI RAME HEAD IS PLYMOUTH REGATTA'S NOMINATED CHARITY FOR 2015

13 July 2015 Plymouth Regatta, which has taken place in the city for over a century and a half, has announced its nominated charity.

Hosted by the Port of Plymouth Sailing Association (PPSA), all proceeds from this year's event, which is set to take place for three days between July 17 and July 19, will go towards the National Coastwatch Institution's lookout station at Rame Head.

As an entirely volunteer-based organisation, National Coastwatch relies solely upon public and corporate donations in order to maintain a visual watch along the coastline.

Regatta director, Neil Dunkley, said: "Their work, providing the eyes and ears along the coast and monitoring radio channels, is totally funded by donations. corporate donations in order to maintain a visual watch along UK shores and to assist with the protection and preservation of life at sea. NCI Rame Head monitors an area from Looe in the west to the mouth of the Yealm and beyond in the east, including the mouth of Plymouth Sound.

"Myself and the Regatta committee are hopeful regatta competitors will give generously as the NCI are a great comfort to those who partake in our sport."
