13th August 2016. Dr Katherine Grainger CBE, rowing Olympian, Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, and a national patron of NCI, has won a silver medal with her rowing partner, Vicky Thornley, in Rio. This brings her medal collection to one gold and four silver over five Olympic Games, putting her at the top of the league of British winners ahead of tennis star Kathleen Godfree and swimmer Rebecca Adlington. Now 40, she intends to retire from racing on the water to a more sedentary academic life.
On behalf of all the members of the National Coastwatch Institution, we offer our congratulations to Katherine for her incredible achievement.
