29th August 2016. This bank holiday the annual Newlyn Fish Festival took place and the NCI were there, represented by the team from Cape Cornwall.
The festival saw trawler races, displays by the RNLI and even a fly past by the Red Arrows while the glorious weather ensured that the harbour was packed with visitors. NCI Cape Cornwall had a stall on the North Quay and the team was busy all day selling their range of cards, books and ‘cheeky choughs’ (made by one of the members) as well as explaining the work of the NCI. There were even interviews with several local radio stations and by the end of the day the station had raised over £400 towards their new CCTV system.
Cape Cornwall Station Manager Jonathan Rothwell said “This year the Newlyn Fish Festival was bigger and better than ever and our team rose to the challenge of wecoming all the visitors to our stall. It was a great day all round and my thanks go to Elsie Ash, Mary & Bill Kingdon, Phil Oldfield, Mike Roberts and Jennifer Tuson who worked so hard. Thanks also to Pete Munday, Pete Winterson and Hugh Thomas who erected the gazebo on Sunday evening. This was a really great result from all concerned and a great finish to our summer season”.
