During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

49023 02/03/2024 NCI Lyme Bay HMCG asked NCI for visual after report of child stuck in mud. Visual and CCTV negative, CG informed. CRT on scene, ambulance attended, child recovered and waiting for ambulance. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49029 02/03/2024 NCI Exmouth HMCG called NCI re. yacht aground. NCI reported it was upright, slight list. 2 POB, seen using phone. No obvious distress. ILB tasked, took people ashore, vessel anchored, for recovery later. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49011 01/03/2024 NCI Torbay HMCG asked NCI for weather update as a person had been recovered from sea and a HELO may be needed. NCI advised that that part of the bay was not visible, however did give weather condition report. , Casualty was recovered and transferred to ambulance, but no further input from NCI. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49004 29/02/2024 NCI St Alban's Head MOP called NCI re person acting suspiciously. NCI informed HMCG and Border Force. No further NCI involvement. NCI No Yes
48969 27/02/2024 NCI Folkestone NCI observed suspicious activity, involving vehicle, and person erecting mast. HMCG informed, and advised inform Police (Special Branch). Police questioned person, outcome unknown. NCI No Yes
48973 27/02/2024 NCI Filey NCI monitored 3 MOP on rocks, concerned as tide rising. HMCG informed. ILB tasked, but casualties managed to return to shore. Met by CRT. NCI Yes Yes
48963 26/02/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP reported to NCI a dog over the cliff. W/K went to scene, and called HMCG requesting CRT be tasked. Location given. CRT recovered dog safe and well and returned it to owner. NCI No Yes

48962 25/02/2024 NCI Exmouth NCI observed a MOP throwing ball for dog into water. Dog unable to retrieve and swept into main channel. MOP undressed to go in after dog. HMCG informed, however dog returned to shore while on phone. MCA/HMCG No Yes
48950 25/02/2024 NCI Folkestone NCI informed HMCG they had lost sight of a kayaker who had departed from harbour. AWLB asked to search, nothing found so kayaker assumed to have turned unseen. NCI Yes Yes

48995 24/02/2024 NCI Gorleston NCI observed a large object floating in harbour. HMCH informed, who said they would investigate. Incident resolved without further action. NCI No Yes
48948 24/02/2024 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed 2 MOP + 3 dogs cut off by tide. Tannoy deployed. HMCG informed, ILB tasked and casualties recovered to harbour. All safe. NCI Yes Yes
48949 24/02/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP called NCI re. person in water, fully clothed. Visual established, HMCG informed - already aware. casualty made it to the shore, ILB tasked, and recovered casualty from beach and transferred, to ambulance. NCI Yes Yes
48978 23/02/2024 NCI Nare Point NCI observed a large baulk of timber, with tyres attached, drifting on the outgoing tide. HMCG informed. Securite warning issued, and NCI monitored until out of sight. NCI No Yes
48938 21/02/2024 NCI Calshot Tower HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of a windsurfer in trouble. NCI had visual of a 'foiler' , who informed the ILB, which had been tasked, that the windsurfer concerned was safely ashore. MCA/HMCG No Yes
48935 20/02/2024 NCI Nare Point IFV called HMCG re. engine overheating. NCI informed CG they had visual, and reported second FV close by. NCI requested to monitor. Pan Pan issued - no response so AWLB tasked and towed , casualty to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

48939 20/02/2024 NCI Penzance Police called NCI asking for search for MISPER. Search continued throughout the time station was open, nothing seen. No update from Police as to outcome. Police No Yes
48909 17/02/2024 NCI St Alban's Head HMCG called NCI asking for visual on yacht Pan Pan with loss of power. Position given, visual established, and vessel monitored until out of sight. Next NCI station informed, and CG updated. MCA/HMCG No Yes
48912 17/02/2024 NCI Canvey Island HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of 2 Paddle Boarders being swept out to sea. PBs spotted, with another 3, and did not appear in distress. CRT tasked, and met PBs as they came ashore. All fine. MCA/HMCG No Yes
48913 17/02/2024 NCI Canvey Island NCI called HMCG re. large fire, flames visible. Smoke blowing into channel, possible hazard to shipping. Fire Brigade attended, no further action from CG. No danger to shipping. NCI No Yes
48903 16/02/2024 NCI Penzance NCI received a call from a MOP in India re. concern for welfare of someone thought to be suicidal. HMCG informed, who contacted informant. Person of interest was found by Police at home, NFA NCI No Yes
48899 15/02/2024 NCI Needles HMCG asked NCI for visual on reported capsized dinghy - negative. ILB tasked, debris reported, and NCI conned LB to object in water. Item was a buoy, and check for dinghy was ongoing MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
48890 14/02/2024 NCI Exmouth HMCG called NCI re. call from MOP about a dog swimming in mid channel, chasing a swan. NCI had visual, and monitored dog, confident it would return to shore, which it did, and was reunited with owner. MCA/HMCG No Yes

48908 14/02/2024 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 2 MOP attempting to cross river mouth in flooding tide. HMCG informed, camera linked to CG. ! casualty was swept away, and got back to shingle bank. ILB and CRT tasked, but casualties, eventually managed to get to safety, assets stood down. NCI Yes Yes
48886 13/02/2024 NCI St Ives MOP contacted HMCG re. concern for foil boarder. CG asked NCI for visual - negative due to poor visibility. ILB tasked, and found boarder on beach having self rescued. NFA. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
48870 12/02/2024 NCI Penzance NCI received call from HMCG re. yacht with engine problems. Visual search requested. NCI confirmed visual, and gave accurate position. AWLB tasked, and commenced tow. ILB assisted to berth yacht., All safe. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

48860 11/02/2024 NCI Worms Head NCI observed a MOP potentially stranded, with causeway closing. Siren deployed. HMCG advised, NCI asked to monitor. Casualties waded back despite causeway being closed. CRT confirmed , they were safe. NCI No Yes
48893 10/02/2024 NCI Gosport Yacht issued a MayDay with fire in engine compartment. NCI had visual, HMCG informed. Second yacht and pilot vessel went to assist. CG issued MayDay relay for any vessel with fire fighting , capability to assist. Fire reported extinguished, tow established by pilot vessel. 48852 10/02/2024 NCI St Ives NCI observed 2 SUPs in trouble. HMCG informed, monitoring continued, and ILB tasked. NCI conned ILB to casualties, and they were recovered to shore. No injuries. NCI No Yes
