During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

44779 15/01/2023 NCI Shoreham NCI observed capsized kayak, being assisted by other kayaker. Attempted to contact by loudhailer. HMCG informed, W/K walked to better viewing site. Casualty then beached, struggled to relaunch., NCI contacted Harbour authority to obtain land access, then casualty observed back on water and heading to safety. NCI No Yes
44731 14/01/2023 NCI Torbay HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of object in water. NCI observed a wave buoy, CG informed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
44737 14/01/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG contacted NCI re. 2 MOP on shore, possibly in danger. NCI had visual, no danger but monitored. Phoned possible contacts from yesterday - negative.Casualties then moved to safer area, CG informed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
44764 14/01/2023 NCI Porthcawl MOP observed object on surf line, reported to NCI, and identified as carcase of a dolphin. HMCG informed, local council to arrange removal. NCI No Yes
44725 13/01/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG requested visual on wing foiler, after 999 call from MOP. NCI had been monitoring and had started to swim ashore. Monitoring continued, CG updated. ILB tasked, casualty lost from view., Casualty self rescued, CRT attended, all safe and well. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

44697 08/01/2023 NCI Southend NCI observed cabin cruiser normally moored off beach, sunk with only top of cabin visible. HMCG advised. Waterman advised of situation. Vessel then grounded. NFA NCI No Yes
44751 07/01/2023 NCI Calshot Tower MOP informed NCI a windsurfer was in trouble. HMCG informed, NCI had visual. 3 others assisting casualty to shore, and all safely recovered. CG informed MCA/HMCG No Yes

44668 03/01/2023 NCI Porthcawl Police called NCI re. concern for people looking for missing dog on cliffs. Extensive search, with camerasand binoculars revealed nothing. Walkers had been warned of danger. NFA Police No Yes

44587 30/12/2022 NCI Charmouth HMCG phoned NCI re. 2 MsOP possibly cut off by tide. W/K walked to assess situation. Reported to HMCG 2 MOP at base of cliff. CRT and ILB tasked. 44601 30/12/2022 NCI Exmouth MOP called NCI re. Fishing vessel which had slipped mooring, no-one on board. NCI had visual. HMCG and Harbour Master informed. Dinghy observed alongside vessel. Casualty able to return to mooring, under its own power. CG informed NCI No Yes
44588 29/12/2022 NCI Mablethorpe Object identified on beach by NCI. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. Object was rolled up fishing net, too heavy to move. Council informed. NCI No Yes
44633 29/12/2022 NCI Swanage MOP informed NCI a lady had fallen and damaged her leg. W/K called ambulance and provided warm clothing. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. Paramedics diagnosed broken leg, requested air ambulance., Casualty evacuated by HELO in under an hour. NCI No Yes
44563 26/12/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP reported to NCI a suspicious object on beach. HMCG informed, photo supplied. Multi agency response , including explosives team, and police. Eventually decided no risk as part of trawl gear. NCI No Yes
44567 26/12/2022 NCI Porthcawl Police asked NCI for assistance with search for potential suicide. HMCG informed. False alarm as object was a log. Search continued, CRT involved, no contact so assumed casualty was not on coastline. Police No Yes
44568 26/12/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG called NCI re. report by MOP of swimmer in difficulty. Visual established, not moving, possibly a buoy. ILB tasked, conned onto object by NCI, and confirmed it was a buoy. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

44851 24/12/2022 NCI Hornsea MOP reported intoxicated person on prom being washed by incoming tide. HMCG informed, advised call Police. PCSO attended, casualty not seen, so search commenced. Outcome not known. NCI No Yes
