During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

41644 06/04/2022 NCI Nare Point Yacht reported to HMCG a broken boom, entering river entrance.Making way under power. NCI reported to CG they had visual, and were monitoring vessel. vessel was lost to sight of NCI, but was safe. NCI No Yes
41505 05/04/2022 NCI Hornsea NCI observed 3 motor scooters driving on promenade and slipway. HMCG informed, advised call Police on 101. Police called, and scooters left area before Police arrived. NCI No Yes

41472 04/04/2022 NCI Exmouth Harbour Master asked if NCI had visual on RIB drifting in river. Visual confirmed and HMCG informed. RNLI tasked and retrieved RIB, and returned it to safe mooring. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

41481 02/04/2022 NCI Moelfre NCI observed overturned Kayak with occupant unable to get back in. Called HMCG, casualty in water. Others helped, recovered paddle and helped casualty back in. , CG requested monitoring, and kayakers all returned to safety. NFA NCI No Yes

Casualties called NCI, who assured them help was on the way., ILB and CRT tasked, ILB collected casualties and transported to the care of CRT and safety. 41430 01/04/2022 NCI Exmouth NCI observed a yacht aground. HMCG informed, and called vessel with no reply. Vessel then observed moving, confirmed by RNLI by radio. NFA NCI Yes Yes

41386 30/03/2022 NCI Needles HMCG requested NCI monitor vessel with engine failure, at anchor off bay. Vessle taken under tow by other vessel and arrived safely at Lymington MCA/HMCG No Yes
41382 29/03/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG tasked ILB to possible suicidal person entering water. NCI had visual, and informed CG that casualty now in hands of Police. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41381 28/03/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG phoned NCI re. report from MOP regarding swimmer holding onto buoy outside harbour. Poor visibility so unable to confirm. NCI continued to monitor. , MOP later contacted to say no swimmer present. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41365 28/03/2022 NCI Porthcawl MOP approached NCI re. distressed adult male, missing from home. Nothing seen, but W/Ks agreed to keep a look out. W/K advised contacting Police but refused. 41356 27/03/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head Police observed heading to possible 'jumper'. NCI had observed suspect with e-scooter. CRT tasked also. Suspect pointed out to PC. Suspect approached by CRT and Police, and then pursued. , CRT stood down and indications were that it was a hoax call. Police No Yes
41359 27/03/2022 NCI Torbay Incident declared re. MOP threatening self harm. CRT requested NCI close footpath. Casualty persuaded to move back from cliff edge, and removed to safety., Footpath reopened and incident closed. MCA/HMCG No Yes

41343 23/03/2022 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed large grass fire in dunes. Contacted fire brigade on 999, and informed HMCG. Fire extinguished by fire brigade. NCI No Yes
41328 22/03/2022 NCI Boscastle NCI observed white object, possibly a small boat or kayak, approximately 4 miles from lookout. HMCG informed and asked NCI to monitor., CG updated on situation, including weather conditions, and eventually visual contact was lost. NCI No Yes

41340 22/03/2022 NCI Rhoscolyn NCI heard 'AllStations' message re. overdue kayaker. Visual watch commenced. NCI told CG that a fishing vessel was in area. ILB and CRT tasked. 2 kayakers seen, but not casualty, and not in trouble., ILB located casualty on rocks, and was conveyed back to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41322 20/03/2022 NCI Froward Point HMCG requested visual on capsized kayak. Negative. ILB tasked but too shallow to approach casualty on rocks. HELO requested. NCI gave weather update. , HELO winched one casualty out, and 2 kayakers paddled to ILB to return to harbour. Kayaks secured by ILB. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41339 20/03/2022 NCI Felixstowe NCI informed by HMCG that a yacht had run aground. Visual watch requested. CRTs also monitored situation. ILB tasked and moved casualty ashore, and waited for tide to refloat vessel. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41294 20/03/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head NCI observed Motor Cruiser aground on entering harbour. HMCG contacted vessel, who confirmed problem, and NCI provided local conditions report.Visual maintained until casualty refloated. MCA/HMCG No Yes

41279 19/03/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG contacted NCI re. yacht aground on sandbank. Vessel observed, 1 POB water rough. ILB tasked, but unable to get close to initiate tow.
