During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

42003 27/05/2022 NCI Worms Head MOP observed heading to Head, siren deployed, no response, causeway closing. HMCG informed, NCI asked to monitor. CRT and ILB tasked, located casualty and took to safety. , Fisherman also on island, but happy to stay until tide falls. NCI Yes Yes
42004 27/05/2022 NCI Rame Head Small fishing vessel suffered engine failure. Nearby vessel offered tow. HMCG asked NCI to monitor after W/K confirmed visual. CG told tow under way, and went out of sight of NCI. Pan Pan cancelled. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42025 27/05/2022 NCI Felixstowe HMCG requested visual on vessel after MOP reported concern. RIB with 3 POB observed close to beach by W/K after walking to investigate. Vessel was fishing, not in danger. MCA/HMCG No Yes

42020 26/05/2022 NCI Gorleston Vessel informed NCI of engine failure, and drifting. HMCG informed. 4 POB. ILB tasked, took casualty under tow to safety in marina. MMO Yes Yes
41985 25/05/2022 NCI Brancaster Motor Cruiser lost power offshore from station. HMCG tasked, NCI monitored situation, 1 POB ill with seasickness. ILB took vessel under tow back to safety of harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41896 25/05/2022 NCI Gosport Pan Pan from unknown station - vessel taking on water. HMCG asked NCI if they had visual - negative. Pan Pan upgraded to May Day, full search with ILBx2 and HELO. Nothing further heard., After 1.5 hours, nothing found, assets stood down and search suspended. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41989 25/05/2022 NCI Calshot Tower Local patrol advised HMCG a yacht was aground. CG unable to establish comms. NCI had visual, and gave CG position. ILB tasked, but casualty broke free, LB stood down. Vessel then went aground again, Pan Pan issued. LB redeployed. NCI observed casualty to be free again, and being escorted by LB, 2 POB. 41970 24/05/2022 NCI Nells Point HMCG contacted 2 commercial vessels following report of oil pollution.. NCI asked to monitor, and report any discharges. Large slick identified, reported to CG., Pilot boat asked to look out for slick, but thought to have broken up in weather conditions. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41978 24/05/2022 NCI Needles Pan Pan from motor cruiser with engine failure. NCI informed HMCG they had visual, which was drifting. NCI expressed concern for vessel, AWLB tasked and took casualty under tow to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41960 24/05/2022 NCI Brancaster NCI observed kite surfer who appeared to be in trouble. After several minutes, HMCG informed. After a further 4 minutes, casualty not back on board, so CG informed. ILB and CRT tasked., 2 minutes later, casualty got back on board, and returned safely to shore. CG informed, assets stood down. NCI Yes Yes
41967 24/05/2022 NCI Newhaven HMCG phoned NCI re. windsurfer possibly in trouble. NCI had visual, lying on board. AWLB and CRT tasked, however casualty then seen back on board, assists stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41953 23/05/2022 NCI Prawle Point NCI overheard HMCG calling fishing vessel, with no response. NCI advise CG they haver visual on vessel, which is towing a speedboat towards harbour. Vessel monitored until reach harbour. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41962 23/05/2022 NCI Porthcawl HMCG paged LB and CRT re. MOP threatening self harm near waters edge. CG asked NCI for visual, but nothing seen. CG informed NCI casualty was with Police, and safe. Assets stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41968 22/05/2022 NCI Calshot Tower HMCG called local LB re. catamaran capsized. NCI had visual and advised CG other vessels in attendance. LB and navy launch on scene, towed casualty to shore, CRT secured vessel., casualty brought to NCI for hot drink and await ambulance. Casualty taken to hospital by ambulance. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41957 22/05/2022 NCI Exmouth MOP reported to NCI a jet ski in difficulty, tangled on a rope in river. Tried to contact Harbour Master, but unable to. Informed HMCG, then Harbour Master called to say he would send help. CG updated, ILB launched and Harbour Master took casualty ashore. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41959 22/05/2022 NCI Torbay NCI observed lone swimmer in danger from fast moving vessels, causing them to alter course. Harbour Master informed, all craft advised of situation. NCI monitored swimmer to 1 mile offshore., Swimmer then returned to safety of beach. NCI No Yes
42187 21/05/2022 NCI Nare Point Power boat crew reported engine failure and smoke in engine bay. HMCG informed that NCI had visual. 3 POB. RIB attended, then left, LB tasked. RIB returned, took crew off, and towed casualty to safety, LB cancelled. NCI Yes Yes
42120 21/05/2022 NCI St Alban's Head HMCG called NCI re. yacht out of fuel and no wind. Position given to NCI was incorrect. Swanage NCI contacted for visual, and AWLB tasked, and gave advice to vessel. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41941 21/05/2022 NCI Nells Point NCI observed a large tree floating in channel, possible hazard to small craft. HMCG informed. CG issued Securite warning. Same object observed next day, CG alerted again, and may need to be removed. NCI No Yes
41927 20/05/2022 NCI Prawle Point Yacht issued Pan Pan as lost engine and dragging anchor. NCI had visual. Second yacht in vicinity passed line and towed casualty to harbour and safety. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41931 20/05/2022 NCI Nells Point HMCG called NCI re. Police report of person in the water near slip. Visual scan revealed 2 MOP on beach. ILB tasked. Later report of one person in Police custody. ILB stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

41932 19/05/2022 NCI Porthcawl Police asked NCI if they had seen vulnerable person reportedly seen on rocks. Visual scan carried out, nothing seen. NCI established CCTV link to HMCG. Casualty located on rocks, drinking and low., Police officers assisted casualty to safety, CG given update. Police No Yes
41906 17/05/2022 NCI Calshot Tower NCI observed 2 paddle boarders in difficulty. HMCG informed. 1 casualty waved for help. LB tasked, recovered casualty and returned them to safety of beach. NCI Yes Yes
41907 17/05/2022 NCI Hornsea Report to NCI a vulnerable adult was missing. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. Police and CRT began search, NCI continued to keep look out. Casualty returned of own accord to care home, safe and well. NCI No Yes
41908 17/05/2022 NCI Canvey Island HMCG requested NCI to look out for man in rowing boat heading towards estuary, as reported by MOP. One boat seen, not same description, but suspected to be person reported. No danger, NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
42118 17/05/2022 NCI St Alban's Head HMCG phoned NCI re. vessel engine failure. Visual established, and monitored by NCI. Eventually casualty passed out of area of NCI. AWLB tasked to tow casualty to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41925 15/05/2022 NCI St Agnes Head MOP reported to NCI 2 kayaks struggling in strong winds, one possibly capsized. Not visible from station. HMCG informed, ILB tasked, but nothing found. NFA. MMO Yes Yes
41881 15/05/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG contacted NCI re. yacht appeared to be in trouble according to a MOP. Initial search revealed nothing, CG informed. Vessel then identified, under power, and monitored until at harbour mouth. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41882 15/05/2022 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent NCI observed small boat drifting, unattended. HMCG informed as possible hazard to others. Owner then recaptured vessel with help of passing yacht and boarded safely. NCI No Yes
41889 15/05/2022 NCI Exmouth HMCG contacted NCI to check on progress of yacht being escorted by lifeguards to marina. NCI reported vessel entered marina. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41898 15/05/2022 NCI Calshot Tower Pan Pan from yacht with engine failure and torn sail. Assistance requested. Solent rescue located casualty, took under tow. Pan Pan cancelled. Casualty met by harbour master and taken to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41904 14/05/2022 NCI Gosport Yacht under tow by day boat ran aground. 1 POB. Occupant called QHM, harbour patrol attended, HMCG informed. Tow attempts failed. Casualty later reboarded and towed off by RIB to safety. NCI Yes Yes
41862 14/05/2022 NCI Nells Point MOP on inflatable checked by lifeguard, but said did not need assistance. NCI monitored, and informed HMCG. Motor vessel also offered help as occupant looked tired. Offer declined. , casualty eventually returned to shore with lifeguard, CG advised. NCI No Yes
41865 14/05/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head Motor vessel reported to have anchor chain wrappers around propeller, radio inoperative. HMCG requested NCI for visual - confirmed, 4 POB, no lifejackets. ILB tasked and towed to harbour and safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41866 14/05/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head Motor boat, at anchor, reported to NCI they had been struck by a sailing yacht. Bow damaged but not taking on water. Advised to call HMCG, and NCI advices CG they had visual. , Vessel decided to return to harbour, but had to wait for tide. NCI monitored until vessel safe. Fire No Yes
41867 14/05/2022 NCI Worms Head MOP on island reported to NCI his wife had fallen and injured her head and neck. W/K called HMCG on 999, and gave casualties phone number. CRT and HELO tasked, casualty flown to A&E, CRT escorted others to safety, casualty Okay after scan. NCI thanked for assistance. NCI No Yes
41868 14/05/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG asked NCI for visual on swimmer 500m offshore. CG advised nothing seen. Info then updated to possible dinghy with 2 POB Incident closed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
