During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

51134 08/09/2024 NCI Needles HMCG issued Pan Pan re. motor launch, 4POB, with engine failure. NCI plotted position, and had visual. Yacht responded, but could not tow due to state of tide. Several vessels offered help, but tide , too low. Pan Pan reissued, and RIB responded, and initiated tow. NCI monitored situation. Casualty towed to safety. MCA/HMCG No Yes
51107 07/09/2024 NCI Porthcawl Motor vessel called HMCG with engine failure and drifting towards rocks. 4 POB, all with lifejackets. CG asked NCI for visual, affirmative, and camera linked to CG. All vessels in area asked to help., Cabin Cruiser responded and tried to prevent drifting onto rocks, ILB tasked. Casualties transferred to LB, and vessel taken under tow to marina. All safe. 51112 07/09/2024 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea MOP called NCI re colleague stung be weaver fish, and unable to walk. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. CRT located casualty and administer first aid. NCI No Yes
51113 07/09/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG called NCI re 999 call from vessel with engine failure. NCI gave CG accurate position, Pan Pan issued. ILB tasked, FV in attendance. LB towed casualty to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
51131 07/09/2024 NCI Felixstowe Yacht reported to HMCG they had run out of fuel, and may not safely reach port under sail. NCI plotted position. CG advised them to make way to safe place. NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
51098 06/09/2024 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent NCI observed a MOP in distress near water, and went to investigate. HMCG called NCI as they had been informed. NCI informed CG they were with casualty, and update requested. NCI encouraged casualty , to move away from water, CRT and Police arrived and took care of casualty. MCA/HMCG No Yes
51099 06/09/2024 NCI Rame Head FV reported to HMCG an empty semi submerged dinghy, no debris present. CG asked NCI for visual search, ILB tasked and towed vessel back to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
51106 06/09/2024 NCI Felixstowe NCI observed an inflatable, 2 POB, behaving suspiciously. HMCG informed. Vessel then moved a short distance and stopped, then came ashore and contents of dinghy unloaded into car. Details passed , to CG. NCI No Yes
51090 05/09/2024 NCI Whitstable MOP called NCI re. windsurfer in difficulty. Nothing seen from lookout, HMCG informed. CRT tasked, and located casualty, who was safely ashore, and had been known from previous incident. NCI No Yes
51071 04/09/2024 NCI Teignmouth NCI observed a paddle boarder picking up large objects from the sea. They then returned to shore but out of sight to NCI. HMCG informed, and requested further information. NCI No Yes
51074 03/09/2024 NCI Porthcawl May Day was issued by yacht, 2 POB, taking on water. NCI informed HMCG they had visual, and a FV was nearby. ILB tasked, crew boarded casualty with pump. Situation got under control, AWLB tasked., AWLB undertook tow and casualty reached safety of marina. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
51057 02/09/2024 NCI Canvey Island Pan Pan from a yacht - lost rudder, 2 POB. NCI informed HMCG they had visual, and were monitoring. Vessel was anchored, so no need for action, no danger. Next day yacht club arranged a tow. MCA/HMCG No Yes
51023 01/09/2024 NCI Charmouth NCI observed 3 kayakers in 2 kayaks had capsized. HMCG informed. W/K alerted a angling kayaker who rescued the adults and child, NCI informed Harbour Master, who confirmed the kayaks were recovered. NCI No Yes

51037 01/09/2024 NCI Exmouth NCI observed a yacht struggling against the tide, and dropped anchor in shipping channel. HMCG advised, monitoring requested. NFA NCI No Yes
51038 01/09/2024 NCI Shoreham NCI observed 9 teenagers jumping off pier into 2 mtrs of water, tide ebbing. NCI informed them of danger, HMCG informed, and when they were told CG was involved they left. NCI No Yes
51082 31/08/2024 NCI Llandudno NCI observed 2 paddle boarders, no buoyancy aids, being carried out to sea by wind and current. HMCG informed, ILB tasked and recovered both casualties. NCI Yes Yes

51016 31/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl Police asked NCI to help search for a MISPER, possibly suicidal. Search with cameras and visual revealed nothing. casualty later confirmed to have been found inland. Police No No
51017 31/08/2024 NCI Whitstable NCI observed a windsurfer in difficulty. HMCG informed. casualty eventually reached shallow water and waded ashore safely. NCI No Yes
51004 30/08/2024 NCI Canvey Island NCI observed a jetski in a restricted area, then in a designated area but travelling very fast. NCI informed maritime police and supplied CCTV footage. Police to deal with incident. NCI No No
51007 30/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl NCI heard HMCG calling LGs re. vulnerable person believed to be heading for coast. Help to search was offered and search commenced using cameras and visual aids. CRT also tasked. A car was seen, but , could not be identified, then a person matching description was seen, and CG informed. Police visited lookout to look at footage. Police HELO tasked. 50992 29/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl Yacht reported to HMCG concern for 3 paddle boarders being blown onto rocks. NCI established visual, 1 person in water, but seemed okay. CG informed. casualties eventually reached shore safely. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50991 29/08/2024 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed a fire, HMCG informed. Fire Brigade tasked, 6 engines, police, CRT and ILB all involved. ! person was picked up by CG and taken away under police escort. ILB transported fire fighters, back to mainland. NCI Yes Yes
51904 29/08/2024 NCI Needles NCI received a message re. paddle boarder in difficulty, waving their arms. Radio message was distorted, HMCG informed, CRT and local LB involved. Nothing found when lockout closed. NCI Yes Yes
51313 29/08/2024 NCI Prawle Point NCI heard radio traffic between HMCG and a yacht. Vessel had been logged by NCI, later spotted at anchor. Position supplied to CG, monitoring requested. Vessel had a fire on board which had been , extinguished. Cg asked to be updated, as comms were difficult. NFA. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50980 28/08/2024 NCI Stone Point HMCG requested assistance for vessel with engine issues. NCI informed CG they had visual, and vessel was continuing under sail. NCI called other stations to advise - Gosport reported now safe in port. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50987 28/08/2024 NCI Penzance HMCG called NCI re. report of a jet skier speeding near beach. NCI had visual, and established it was a LG pursuing 5 children trying to access Mount by climbing rocks, putting themselves in danger. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50963 26/08/2024 NCI Stone Point HMCG called NCI re report of RIB with engine failure. NCI asked for visual. Rescue vessel tasked but unable to assist due to shallow water. Sea Start then tasked and towed vessel to safety. Fire Yes Yes

50976 26/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. call from MOP with concern for person on rock on flooding tide. NCI confirmed they had logged a kayaker alongside rocks, who had just left and was safely ashore. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50954 25/08/2024 NCI Southend NVIobserved a party of 13 MOP walking out to artificial island. CRT called asking for info, following call from MOP. CRT went to location, and all assets stood down by CG, when advised they had , returned to shore. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50955 25/08/2024 NCI Rame Head HMCG called NCI re injured crewman on vessel, no radio. Search requested. NCI had possible sighting, ILB tasked to monitor, then CG stood down all assets as believed to be a hoax call. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50958 25/08/2024 NCI Southend HMCG called NCI requesting visual on yacht aground. Visual confirmed, ILB tasked. Casualty had 2 POB, one had limited mobility. Engine suspected to have failed but found to be OK. ILB attempted tow, but requested bigger vessel, which towed casualty to safety. MCA/HMCG No Yes
