During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

50911 22/08/2024 NCI Stone Point MOP informed NCI there was a person in water waving arms. Wind surfer identified with equipment failure. HMCG informed. Yacht attended and went to recover board. 50939 22/08/2024 NCI Calshot Tower HMCG called NCI re. report of a vulnerable person beach, possible self harm. NCI observed 3 Police officers assisting person from water. Casualty then taken to ambulance, CG updated. ILB also tasked,, but stood down. NFA MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50942 22/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. report of 2 persons being swept out to sea, waving for help. NCI initiated search but saw nothing. Casualties then reported to be safely ashore. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50949 22/08/2024 NCI Needles NCI observed a zodiac inflatable drifting, no person visible. HMCG informed, position provided, but visibility getting worse. AWLB tasked, and NCI gave LB an estimated position as visibility lost., LB located vessel and towed to harbour. NCI Yes Yes
50909 21/08/2024 NCI Canvey Island CRT were tasked to search for washed up kayak, HMCG asked NCI to assist. Camera search by NCI was negative. Kayak not found. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50959 21/08/2024 NCI Cape Cornwall Pan Pan received from kayakers that one kayak had capsized and occupant unable to get back onboard. HMCG informed, ungraded call to MayDay, AWLB and HELO tasked. Leader asked to activate, his EPIRB to aid locating casualty. Casualty safely recovered by LB, HELO stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50918 21/08/2024 NCI Bembridge NCI observed a black object, HMCG informed. CG also had a report of an upturned dinghy. AWLB tasked, conned to object by NCI, which was the dinghy. Dinghy recovered by LB. NCI Yes Yes

50932 21/08/2024 NCI Mablethorpe Police called NCI asking to look out for a missing person, potential self harm. LGs informed of description. MISPER later found in town, LGs informed. Police No Yes
50941 21/08/2024 NCI Folkestone HMCG called NCI re. report of 2 people on body boards in distress. W/K left lookout to investigate, and found 2 abandoned body boards and a used life buoy on rocks. CG informed., CG informed NCI local rescue had recovered 2 persons with minor scratches and were waiting for an ambulance. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50916 20/08/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG issued MayDay relay from a locator beacon, NCI plotted position to be from a yacht. HMCG informed, vessel confirmed their beacon was not activated. CG stood down search, NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
50934 20/08/2024 NCI Padstow HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of windsurfer in difficulty. NCI had already been watching a windsurfer, who appeared inexperienced but not in danger. Harbour patrol vessel attended, and , wingsurfer returned to beach safely. CG informed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50905 20/08/2024 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent Beach patrol reported wind surf board static, no-one visible. HMCG informed. Casualty then was visible by board. Loud hailer used, casualty had been stuck in lines, and then came ashore - all well. MMO No Yes
50957 20/08/2024 NCI Cape Cornwall NCO observed a MOP standing on cliffs, and became concerned for their welfare. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. CRT visited person, but they were just enjoying view. NCI No Yes
50908 20/08/2024 NCI Felixstowe NCI observed a sailing dinghy giving cause for concern, appeared beached and abandoned. HMCG were informed, and monitoring requested. Persons then returned to dinghy, sailed off and then grounded, Crew waded ashore and recovered dinghy later. NCI No Yes
50885 19/08/2024 NCI Filey HMCG called NCI re. calls from MOP re. dinghy drifting, NCI established visual. 1 POB and 1 in water. NCI thought dinghy may be returning slowly. ILB tasked, NCI monitored situation., NCI informed CG dinghy was on beach, ILB attended. Safety advice given. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50887 19/08/2024 NCI Worms Head NCI observed MOP stranded on island. Causeway closed. HMCG asked NCI to tell casualty they had been seen, but no response. 2nd casualty then seen. CRT tasked. Casualties then started fishing., AWLB tasked, but casualties stated they would carry on fishing and return when tide fell. NCI had not been informed of their intentions. NCI Yes Yes
50889 19/08/2024 NCI Gosport NCI overheard radio traffic re. person threatening to jump into sea. Possibly same person as a few days ago, who had created a disturbance and may be armed. ILB and HELO tasked. NCI searched area., ILB and HELO searched, nothing seen. Casualty then confirmed to be in ambulance - assets stood down. Later in day a second similar incident occurred with no NCI involvement. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
50904 19/08/2024 NCI Shoreham HMCG called NCI re. call from MOP reporting concern for a RIB, 2 POB who now appeared missing. NCI informed CG they had been monitoring them, and they were free diving. RIB then returned to port. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50872 18/08/2024 NCI Brancaster MOP called NCI re. person stranded on sandbank. HMCG informed, casualty then managed to wade ashore and safety. CG informed. NCI No Yes
50878 18/08/2024 NCI Teignmouth Vessel called NCI having run out of fuel, and was advised to call HMCG on 999. Casualty Was well and position confirmed. CG issued Pan Pan, NCI had visual. Casualty taken under tow by a PWC and taken , to mooring buoy. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50880 18/08/2024 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed 3 MOP cut off by tide. LGs involved and casualties were able to walk to safety of beach. NCI No Yes
50881 18/08/2024 NCI Exmouth NCI heard MayDay from a dive boat. No response heard so HMCG called to ensure it had been picked up. NCI No Yes
50884 18/08/2024 NCI Rhoscolyn NCI heard May Day twice, not distressed. Relay from HMCG, also Pan Pan from other CG station. All vessels had been monitored and all accounted for. Nothing seen. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50886 18/08/2024 NCI Needles NCI observed a dinghy lost overboard from yacht. Called on Ch65 but no response. HMCG informed, who contacted vessel and they confirmed they did not intend to recover items. Items drifted ashore, and were recovered by MOP and placed in place of safety. 50890 18/08/2024 NCI Nare Point NCI observed an unmanned RIB flying 'diver down' flag. Monitored for 20 minutes, no persons seen. HMCG informed, monitoring requested. Later 2 divers returned to RIB, and left area. NCI No Yes
50867 17/08/2024 NCI Shoreham NCI observed a speedboat stop and appear to be drifting. Pan Pan issued as vessel broken down but not in immediate danger. NCI informed HMCG they had visual. Casualty started engine and got, underway, CG informed, Pan Pan cancelled. MMO No Yes
50877 17/08/2024 NCI Nells Point NCI observed a swimmer struggling against tide. Unable to contact LGs so HMCG informed. CG called LGs who launched a jetski. Casualty refused help but was escorted to safety. NCI No Yes
50849 17/08/2024 NCI St Donat's Bay NCI became aware of a MOP whose friend had collapsed close to lookout. HMCG informed, CRT and ambulance called. Gate access obtained by CRT and ambulance took casualty to hospital. NCI No Yes
50583 17/08/2024 NCI Canvey Island NCI observed 3 jetskis in restricted area. Marine Police informed, pictures requested, but unable to act at that time. Pictures emailed to Police. NCI No No
50862 17/08/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG called NCI re. Pan Pan from vessel with engine failure. NCI had visual. Second vessel undertook tow, Pan Pan cancelled. Casualty towed to harbour, all safe. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50863 17/08/2024 NCI Fleetwood NCI reported to HMCG a grounded motor vessel, no-one visible on board. Second vessel investigated, 1 POB, happy to wait as not in difficulty. CRT stood down. NCI No Yes
50864 17/08/2024 NCI Brancaster HMCG reported a MOP missing in channel, ILB tasked, NCI undertook search. Hovercraft and HELO also tasked. CRT attended Lookout. Casualty then seen in water, assets deployed to recover, and , transfer to hospital. NFA MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

50879 16/08/2024 NCI Llandudno MOP called HMCG re. 2 persons stranded on a sandbank. CG asked NCI for visual, and NCI noted tide was falling. When water was shallow enough, casualties walked to safety. CG informed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50843 16/08/2024 NCI Newhaven HMCG issued Pan Pan re. speedboat broken down. NCI informed CG they had visual. Yacht nearby, which lowered tender to assist. Casualty then towed to safety of harbour, CG informed. , Pan Pan cancelled MCA/HMCG No Yes
50852 16/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. call from MOP about 1 paddle boarder and 2 surfers struggling. NCI were already monitoring, not in immediate danger. camera link established. All persons then came out of water. MCA/HMCG No Yes

50835 15/08/2024 NCI Porthcawl HMCG requested NCI help search for a missing person, deemed vulnerable. Visual and camera search carried out - negative. CRT and Police involved. casualty then reported to have returned to family, caravan safe and well. MCA/HMCG No Yes
