During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

50013 09/06/2024 NCI Stone Point A DSC alert was received from a vessel close to NCI. HMCG called NCI re. yacht in the position indicated. W/K walked to get better view, but saw no vessel in obvious distress, CG informed., CG contacted vessel, who reported no problems, May Day cancelled. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50026 09/06/2024 NCI Exmouth RNLI called NCI re. 4 swimmers in difficulty. NCI confirmed visual, and conned ILB to casualties, HMCG called re. 2 further swimmers and requested observation. ILB recovered all 6 safely. RNLI No Yes
50001 09/06/2024 NCI Stone Point NCI observed a yacht, 3 POB, aground. HMCG informed. Pan pan issued by vessel, Seastart and local LB arrived. LB crew advised crew and vessel were fine, and happy to wait for rising tide. NCI Yes Yes
50003 09/06/2024 NCI Rhoscolyn NCI observed a small gorse fire close to the lookout. W/K doused fire and it appeared to be out. The fire then reignited and continued to smoulder despite further attempt to extinguish. HMCG informed., Fire service consulted and W/Ks advised to leave lookout. FB arrived and extinguished fire, and rail started which also helped. NCI No Yes
50004 09/06/2024 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of a RIB washed up on rocks. Visual requested and confirmed it was on the beach, not rocks, and was probably a LG vessel. Vessel recovered by LGs. MCA/HMCG No Yes
50118 09/06/2024 NCI Penzance NCI observed a capsized canoe, 2 POB, and struggling to right it. HMCG informed, as casualties were waving for help. AWLB tasked, and casualties were recovered, and a yacht recovered canoe. NCI Yes Yes
50011 09/06/2024 NCI Shoreham NCI observed a kayak capsize on entering harbour - unable to right itself and climb aboard. 3 jet skis, and safety boat attended, and assisted casualty to right kayak and return to shore safely. , HMCG informed of outcome. NCI No Yes
50014 09/06/2024 NCI Shoreham NCI observed a windsurfer in difficulty. HMCG informed. FV contacted by CG and located casualty, and towed casualty to beach. Casualty safe and had no injuries. NCI No Yes
50000 08/06/2024 NCI Porthcawl MOP informed NCI her daughter was missing. Details passed to HMCG. Extensive search visually and camera, revealed nothing, and casualty found safe at fathers car. NCI No Yes
49980 05/06/2024 NCI Torbay NCI observed a speedboat heading for wild swimmer. Attempts by NCI, and others to contact vessel were made, and eventually it altered course. Swimmer returned safely. NCI No No
49984 05/06/2024 NCI Worms Head MOP informed NCI of possible ordnance off local path. W/K got photo and informed HMCG, sending photo. CRT tasked, and cordoned off item for EOD experts. NCI No Yes
49997 05/06/2024 NCI Felixstowe NCI observed a yacht aground at river entrance, just after high tide. HMCG informed. Several FVs tried to assist, without success. ILB tasked, attempted a tow, but unsuccessful. BF vessel, attended but could not get close. Casualty waited until next high tide, which was after NCI closed. NCI Yes Yes
49974 04/06/2024 NCI Bass Point NCI observed a cargo vessel anchored in the BT cable exclusion zone. Position plotted, BT informed by phone. Situation ongoing to later watches. NCI No No
49983 04/06/2024 NCI Exmouth NCI received call from HMCG re. a May Day relay about a vessel sinking. Nothing heard, ILB searched with negative result. NFA MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49954 03/06/2024 NCI Boscastle HMCG called NCI re. vessel lost power, but it was out of visual range. NCI later established visual as visibility improved. Pan Pan issued, FV responded and towed casualty to harbour to anchor., Casualty eventually reached harbour with auxiliary engine, all safe. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49977 03/06/2024 NCI St Donat's Bay MOP reported to HMCG concern for a swimmer. CG called NCI who reported swimmer had left slipway, well equipped and had been monitored. Swimmer returned to safety of slipway, CG advised. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49953 02/06/2024 NCI Boscastle HMCG called NCI re. paddle boarders reported to be in trouble.NCI established visual, but poor visibility. Casualties were deemed to not be in trouble, as were known as capable locals. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49949 02/06/2024 NCI Charlestown HMCG tasked ILB to 2 paddle boarders (2 adults + child) hugging coast. NCI confirmed visual, monitoring requested. ILB reached casualties, who were not in trouble and reached beach safely. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49950 02/06/2024 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 3 teens on inflatable being pushed down estuary on ebbing tide. casualties waving. HMCG informed, camera link established. ILB and CRT tasked. 2 Casualties then got into water, trying to, swim. 1 casualty reached shore, and adult tried to recover dinghy in chest deep water. ILB reached casualties to check they were OK. 49932 01/06/2024 NCI Charmouth NCI observed a paddle boarder drifting out to sea. Tried to paddle back but not making progress. Then tried swimming back, again with little success. HMCG informed, casualty monitored., Eventually reached shore very tired. CG informed. NCI No Yes

49888 27/05/2024 NCI Felixstowe NCI were called by windsurfer to say a MOP was on beach with a back injury. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. Casualty declined medical help, but accepted assistance to return home. NCI No Yes
49894 27/05/2024 NCI Penzance NCI observed a jets with loss of power, 1 adult, 2 children on board. Trying to push vessel ashore against tide. HMCG informed, ILB and CRT tasked. Vessel reached surf line, assets stood down. , CRT helped repair vessel, which then returned to harbour. All safe. NCI Yes Yes
49870 27/05/2024 NCI Calshot Tower NCI received call re. vessel broken down, 2 POB. Search requested, initially wrong vessel identified, then correct vessel seen at river entrance, but Sea Start unable to proceed due to sea state., Vessel drifting, but no injuries aboard. Border force vessel then towed casualty to harbour. MCA/HMCG No Yes
