During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

49868 26/05/2024 NCI Newhaven MOP informed NCI a walker had fallen, injuring their knee. W/K offered first aid, Ambulance called but no ETA. HMCG informed. W/K remained with casualty, CG asked ambulance for ETA, CRT tasked. , CRT and ambulance diverted to heart attack, so friend of casualty took them to hospital. NCI No Yes
49849 25/05/2024 NCI Calshot Tower HMCG called NCI re. ILB tasked to paddle boarder. LB asked NCI for visual, which was confirmed. Original casualty was safely ashore, but a second was stranded on the mud. ILB unable to reach due to, lack of water. CRT tasked and second casualty recovered, ambulance requested as suffering from cold. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49841 24/05/2024 NCI Torbay HMCG asked NCI for weather conditions, following a Pan Pan from a vessel taking on water. AWLB tasked, and 1 crew put on casualty. 2 POB and was escorted to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49847 24/05/2024 NCI Prawle Point French vessel contacted HMCG in French, CG thought it to be in Salcombe area and needed help to anchor. CG and vessel unable to understand each other. NCI asked for visual - negative. NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
49838 23/05/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head Ambulance service reported a vulnerable person was on Spit. HMCG tasked CRT, and asked NCI for search. CRT located person and ambulance departed with person onboard Ambulance No Yes
49840 23/05/2024 NCI Torbay Yacht fired red flare and issued MayDay. NCI relayed information to HMCG. Vessel took casualty under tow, and AWLB tasked to take over. NCI conned LB to casualty which was towed to safety. NCI Yes Yes
49824 23/05/2024 NCI Nare Point Unaccompanied dog found by NCI on path. Dog taken to lookout. HMCG informed in case owner was injured. CG informed RSPCA, Police and CRT. Information put on Facebook. 49829 23/05/2024 NCI Exmouth NCI advised HM and HMCG of semi submerged tender next to slipway. Considered a potential hazard to shipping. Tender was beached and beach manager informed. NCI No Yes
49819 22/05/2024 NCI Torbay NCI observed an inflatable, 2 POB, struggling to return to beach. Offshore wind and rain. HMCG informed, AWLB tasked as they were on exercise. 49828 22/05/2024 NCI Exmouth MOP reported kite surfer in difficulty to HMCG. CG asked NCI for visual. Paddle boarders seen on beach, then MOP confirmed kite surfer was safely on beach. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49809 21/05/2024 NCI Bass Point HMCG called NCI asking for a search after MOP reported possible capsized dinghy. Nothing seen but search continued. CG asked for update later - negative so incident closed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49812 21/05/2024 NCI Exmouth HMCG advised launch of ILB re. motor vessel with engine failure and drifting towards rocks. NCI confirmed visual of casualty at nearby beach. AWLB tasked and took vessel under tow. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49854 21/05/2024 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 2 kayakers, no cause for concern, however MOP called HMCG with concerns. CG called NCI but casualties out of sight, but had seemed okay. Monitoring continued, and, kayakers reappeared and headed back to beach. CG informed all safe. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49813 21/05/2024 NCI Fleetwood HMCG informed NCI of dog in trouble in the water. NCI had visual. ILB tasked, and dog then seen swimming back to shore. Assets stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
49782 20/05/2024 NCI Gosport Pilot vessel reported a fire in engine room, Police RIB, patrol boat and 2 tugs responded. Fire was extinguished, 3 POB, all wearing Lifejackets. Police launch towed to basin, and FB met vessel., All safe. MCA/HMCG No Yes
49785 20/05/2024 NCI Worms Head 2 MOP reported to NCI a dog had gone over cliff. W/K confirmed situation at location, HMCG informed. CRT and AWLB tasked, dog was recovered and returned to owner, no injuries. MMO Yes Yes

49852 20/05/2024 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 9 MOP + 2 dogs trying to cross estuary. Conditions were dangerous. HMCG informed, camera link established. Casualties made a further attempt, and finally succeeded. CG informed. NCI No Yes
49778 19/05/2024 NCI Newhaven MOP called NCI re. people climbing cliff below fort. Possible criminal intent. Police informed, NCI continued to monitor. Anti social behaviour observed. Police attended, gate insecure, but , trespassers had left scene. NFA. HMCG informed incident closed. NCI No Yes
49783 19/05/2024 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea 7 MOP and dogs were observed by NCI to be cut off by tide. HMCG had been notified, 4 waded back safely, and ILB recovered others including dogs, back to beach. NCI Yes Yes

49776 19/05/2024 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of paddle boarder in difficulty. Visual difficult but eventually saw a kayak tied to a buoy - owner fishing. CRT confirmed the same. NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
49738 18/05/2024 NCI Brancaster NCI observed a container labelled Sulphuric Acid washed up near lookout. W/K checked item secure, and only small amount of contents present. HMCG informed and photo sent. Local Authority, contacted by CG to arrange removal. NCI No Yes
49759 18/05/2024 NCI Calshot Tower NCI received a MOB alarm from an AIS transponder in yacht haven. HMCH informed. ILB tasked to investigate. Marina staff reported a man had inflated a lifejacket at the time., Extensive search revealed nothing, and vessel involved was found and reported no issue. NCI Yes Yes
49762 18/05/2024 NCI Needles Pan Pan from a powerboat taking part in a race - taking on water. Assistance required. yacht pulled alongside to help, comms poor. HMCG asked NCI for visual, which was established, monitoring , continued. ILB was tasked, and escorted casualty to marina despite water ingress worse. All safe. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

49871 17/05/2024 NCI Nells Point HMCG asked NCI to monitor kayak and paddle board off point. 1 person in water. CG advised at risk. ILB and CRT tasked, conned to casualties by NCI. Casualties safely escorted to shore. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
