During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

41204 02/06/2022 NCI Nells Point NCI observed 4 MOP cut off by tide on island. HMCG informed. Casualties then proceeded to wade ashore across causeway.. 3 others were fishing and remained on island. NCI No Yes
42112 02/06/2022 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea MOP reported 2 children missing on beach. HMCG informed. Children found 25 minutes later and reunited with parents. NCI No Yes

42121 02/06/2022 NCI Porthcawl Police requested NCI search for vulnerable adult with child. Visual and camera search carried out, and HMCG informed. Nothing seen and casualty later found inland. Police No Yes

42139 02/06/2022 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed speed boat stopping and starting. HMCG phoned to say they had taken a call from boat owner as he had broken down. NCI confirmed visual. 42090 02/06/2022 NCI Fleetwood Grey RIB observed by NCI - single occupant having difficulty starting engine. HMCG informed. NCI monitored situation, engine restarted, then stopped, and eventually moved out of sight of NCI. NCI No Yes

42069 31/05/2022 NCI Porthcawl NCI called HMCG re. call from MOP about yacht in difficulty. NCI confirmed visual, 1 POB, waiting to enter marina, not in difficulty. Visual link to CG set up, yacht safely entered marina. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42073 31/05/2022 NCI Nells Point NCI observed 2 MOP heading for island, tide coming in and will be cut off in 40 minutes. HMCG advised. Casualties then stranded, ILB tasked, collected casualties, returned to shore. NCI Yes Yes
42074 31/05/2022 NCI Canvey Island 2 UKBF personel asked NCI to locate a RIB, and track it. RIB headed for yacht moored near pier. Police launch intercepted, with a UKBF RIB. NCI W/K had spoken to MOP hoping to pick people up. UK Border Force No No
42088 31/05/2022 NCI Bass Point MOP advised NCI of an injured person on coast path. HMCG advised - position given by WTW. Injury was twisted ankle and casualty was able to make way to medical facility privately. NCI No Yes
42033 29/05/2022 NCI Fleetwood HMCG called NCI re. yacht broken down. No visual, but CG advised by NCI a tug was passing through reported area. NCI then had visual contact, sloop in attendance, CG informed. , Sloop agreed with CG to tow casualty to IOM for repairs. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42034 29/05/2022 NCI Rame Head Motor launch with 5 POB suffered engine failure and drifting towards rocks. HMCG asked NCI for visual, and to monitor. Pan Pan issued. RIB offered assistance, yacht stood by. 1 POB then had a seizure., HELO tasked, ILB on scene so HELO stood down. Incident then rounded point and out of visual from NCI. Pan Pan cancelled. 42039 29/05/2022 NCI St Ives NCI observed young male, fully clothed stranded on rocks, having been in water. Incoming tide. NCI informed HMCG, Lifeguards tasked, who assisted casualty (Jet skier) to safety. NCI No Yes

42032 28/05/2022 NCI Nells Point Lifeguards called NCI re. drifting inflatable. NCI confirmed visual, 1POB plus dog. HMCG informed, NCI continued to monitor. W/K walked to maintain visual. ILB tasked, contacted casualty, ensured it , reached shore safely. CRT then gave safety advice. NCI Yes Yes
42054 28/05/2022 NCI St Donat's Bay NCI observed 2 MOP stranded between cliffs and incoming tide. Unable to climb out. ILB tasked, then NCI observed casualties had self rescued by climbing unstable cliffs NCI Yes Yes
42065 28/05/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG contacted NCI saying MOP had witnessed an argument, and one participant had swum out to sea. NCI conducted search but nothing seen. CG then informed NCI the swimmer had , returned to shore, Police informed. Station closed down. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42024 28/05/2022 NCI Porthcawl HMCG contacted NCI re. 2 paddle boards, each with 2 POB, following call from MOP. Visual established, SUP observed, but no sign of distress, and not in danger. NCI monitored until safely ashore. MCA/HMCG No Yes

42053 27/05/2022 NCI St Donat's Bay NCI called HMCG to report 2 red flashing lights, in vicinity of last known position of single man kayak.CG requested NCI monitor situation. Lights visible for 1 hour. CRT tasked, nothing found. , NFA NCI No Yes
42003 27/05/2022 NCI Worms Head MOP observed heading to Head, siren deployed, no response, causeway closing. HMCG informed, NCI asked to monitor. CRT and ILB tasked, located casualty and took to safety. , Fisherman also on island, but happy to stay until tide falls. NCI Yes Yes
42004 27/05/2022 NCI Rame Head Small fishing vessel suffered engine failure. Nearby vessel offered tow. HMCG asked NCI to monitor after W/K confirmed visual. CG told tow under way, and went out of sight of NCI. Pan Pan cancelled. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42025 27/05/2022 NCI Felixstowe HMCG requested visual on vessel after MOP reported concern. RIB with 3 POB observed close to beach by W/K after walking to investigate. Vessel was fishing, not in danger. MCA/HMCG No Yes

41985 25/05/2022 NCI Brancaster Motor Cruiser lost power offshore from station. HMCG tasked, NCI monitored situation, 1 POB ill with seasickness. ILB took vessel under tow back to safety of harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41896 25/05/2022 NCI Gosport Pan Pan from unknown station - vessel taking on water. HMCG asked NCI if they had visual - negative. Pan Pan upgraded to May Day, full search with ILBx2 and HELO. Nothing further heard., After 1.5 hours, nothing found, assets stood down and search suspended. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41989 25/05/2022 NCI Calshot Tower Local patrol advised HMCG a yacht was aground. CG unable to establish comms. NCI had visual, and gave CG position. ILB tasked, but casualty broke free, LB stood down. Vessel then went aground again, Pan Pan issued. LB redeployed. NCI observed casualty to be free again, and being escorted by LB, 2 POB. 41967 24/05/2022 NCI Newhaven HMCG phoned NCI re. windsurfer possibly in trouble. NCI had visual, lying on board. AWLB and CRT tasked, however casualty then seen back on board, assists stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41970 24/05/2022 NCI Nells Point HMCG contacted 2 commercial vessels following report of oil pollution.. NCI asked to monitor, and report any discharges. Large slick identified, reported to CG., Pilot boat asked to look out for slick, but thought to have broken up in weather conditions. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41978 24/05/2022 NCI Needles Pan Pan from motor cruiser with engine failure. NCI informed HMCG they had visual, which was drifting. NCI expressed concern for vessel, AWLB tasked and took casualty under tow to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41960 24/05/2022 NCI Brancaster NCI observed kite surfer who appeared to be in trouble. After several minutes, HMCG informed. After a further 4 minutes, casualty not back on board, so CG informed. ILB and CRT tasked., 2 minutes later, casualty got back on board, and returned safely to shore. CG informed, assets stood down. NCI Yes Yes
