During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

41793 06/05/2022 NCI Rhoscolyn Coasteering team called HMCG re. person fallen into sea, not breathing. CG asked if NCI had visual, negative, monitoring continued. ILBs and HELOs tasked., Casualty transferred to ILB, then to HELO at sea, Rescue vehicles used NCI station as base. Leaders of group traumatised, advised to seek counselling. Sadly casualty died. 41781 05/05/2022 NCI Lyme Bay HMCG asked NCI for help with incident involving fishing boat which had lost power. Single occupant was deaf and communicated with sister via FaceTime. 41797 05/05/2022 NCI Gorleston MOP reported suspected sighting of whale. CRT investigated, and object turned out to be the boiler of a wreck NCI No Yes
42340 05/05/2022 NCI Mundesley NCI tracked object and realised it was a Dan Buoy. HMCG informed. NCI No Yes
41770 04/05/2022 NCI Portland Bill NCI observed a yacht towing a second larger yacht. The skipper of towing yacht was exhausted, and called several times on Ch65. Towed yacht then called and requested commercial sea rescue., Sea rescue declined to help, HMCG contacted and AWLB was tasked. NCI tracked LB visually until out of sight, station was then closed. 41775 04/05/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head Motor vessel had engine failure, and was taken in tow by yacht. NCI had visual. Casualty was towed to harbour entrance, then tow taken up by second vessel. All safe MCA/HMCG No Yes
41971 03/05/2022 NCI Folkestone NCI observed RIB with 2 POB possibly in trouble. Elderly occupant was rowing, struggling with oars, no lifejacket. HMCG informed, NCI monitored situation. CRT and ILB tasked, occupant refused help., LB crew concerned for occupants welfare, so CG decided LB should tow casualty to shore, and safety. NCI Yes Yes
41737 02/05/2022 NCI St Ives MOP informed NCI swimmer possibly in trouble. HMCG informed. NCI monitored swimmer until the swimmer was safely back on shore. NFA NCI No Yes
41760 02/05/2022 NCI Exmouth NCI observed RIB drifting with tide. Engine fault. NCI informed HMCG, and YBS assisted and RIB beached. Incident closed. NCI No Yes
41764 01/05/2022 NCI Gosport May Day from yacht with engine failure and fire. 4 POB. HMCG acknowledged May Day, NCI informed CG they had visual.. NCI gave position, LB tasked and was conned to casualty by NCI. 2 Police launches, attended, fire reported out. Casualty towed to safety by Police launch, attended by fire engines. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41729 01/05/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head ILB asked NCI to monitor small boat they had assisted. 2 POB. Boat had suffered fuel shortage and engine problems. NCI monitored boat until entered harbour safely. RNLI No No
41739 01/05/2022 NCI Chapel Point NCI observed motor cyclist riding on beach at speed. Police informed. M/C returned 20 mins later below high water mark. No casualties , but a family beach with children playing. NCI No No
41742 01/05/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG phoned NCI re. call from MOP about fishing vessel not returned. NCI did visual search, nothing seen. ILB about to be launched when vessel was reported safe and well. NFA. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41718 30/04/2022 NCI Wooltack Point Vessel called on Ch16 requesting assistance, with engine failure. Anchor down but drifting. NCI informed CH they had visual. Water Ranger asked to assist, and took casualty under tow. NFA RNLI No Yes
41720 30/04/2022 NCI St Alban's Head NCI heard Pan Pan re. vessel engine failure. NCI had AIS and visual through bins. CG asked NCI for detail, and NCI confirmed position. NCI confirmed other vessel nearby, and monitored until no visual. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41708 27/04/2022 NCI Torbay MOP informed HMCG a wind surfer was in difficulty off beach. CG phoned NCI, who had visual. Subject appeared experienced, and not in apparent difficulty. Visual monitoring continued. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41721 27/04/2022 NCI Hornsea Objects observed on beach, reported to HMCG. CRT tasked, viewed objects on CCTV and were guided to objects by Ch65. CRT established objects not dangerous. NFA NCI No Yes
41707 25/04/2022 NCI Torbay HMCG informed NCI that a walker had breathing difficulty nearby. Casualty seen, accompanied by a friend. Ambulance arrived, casualty able to walk. NCI unaware of outcome. MCA/HMCG No Yes
41676 24/04/2022 NCI Llandudno HMCG requested NCI monitor 2 anglers at risk of high tide. CRT tasked to advise anglers to move to a safer location. NCI No Yes
41699 24/04/2022 NCI Hornsea NCI observed 2 children on electric motor cycles, plus one adult, on promenade. Police informed due to danger to pedestrians. Details supplied, including offer of CCTV, Offenders moved away. NCI No No
41701 24/04/2022 NCI Gosport NCI picked up SART alarm, and informed HMCG. Came from yacht in marina, CG to investigate. Alarm cancelled NCI No Yes
41674 23/04/2022 NCI St Agnes Head NCI observed 2 paddle boarders 0.5 mile offshore, lying on boards and paddling. HMCG informed. ILB tasked. Comms difficult, but casualties reached shore safely. NCI Yes Yes

41670 23/04/2022 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed wind surfer unable to get back onto his board in strong wind. Fellow wind surfers reported to NCI he was injured and getting very cold.HMCG informed, ILB tasked, and casualty recovered., Once onshore, he was helped to car by fellow wind surfers. NCI Yes Yes

41652 21/04/2022 NCI Brancaster NCI observed dead porpoise on beach. HMCG informed, and National Trust and estate manager contacted to arrange removal of carcase. NCI No Yes
41657 21/04/2022 NCI Teignmouth MOP reported to HMCG a drifting open boat 200m off beach. NCI unable to see due to poor visibility. ILB tasked. Potter identified, 1 POB, all appeared well, however after further search was -ve, returned to potter and it had been reported as having a problem. ILB towed potter to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

41654 20/04/2022 NCI Rhoscolyn NCI observed canoe with 3 POB struggling against tide. 2 vessels in area. HMCG informed of NCI concern. NCI continued to monitor, and eventually casualties made way to safety. W/K checked on them. NCI No Yes
41655 20/04/2022 NCI Rhoscolyn Speedboat plus 3 jet skis observed travelling at speed. HMCG called by ILB, advising they had launched to vessel with jetski attending. NCI had visual, and conned ILB to casualty., ILB took boat under tow, and returned it to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41658 20/04/2022 NCI Porthcawl HMCG contacted NCI to assist in search for missing adult male. Extensive search with camera revealed nothing. CRT tasked to assist each, but nothing found., casualty later found inland by Police MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
41616 19/04/2022 NCI Brancaster MOP reported to NCI grey container in dunes, contained chemicals. W/K investigated, took photos, contacted HMCG. CRT tasked, and fire service removed object. NCI No Yes
41617 19/04/2022 NCI Rame Head Motor boat with 1 POB suffered engine failure near Eddystone. Occupant called HMCG by phone. NCI unable to establish visual. Pan Pan issued, survey vessel took casualty under tow. NCI then had visual., NCI continued to monitor, and ILB tasked to meed casualty, and took over tow to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
