During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

45920 28/05/2023 NCI Calshot Tower Vessel reported sailing vessel adrift, HMCG informed, NCI identified vessel. ILB tasked, and awakened crew, and stood by as vessel brought under command. Assets stood down. NCI Yes Yes

45925 28/05/2023 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of kayaker in difficulty. Visual requested - confirmed, person appeared to be fishing. Monitoring continued, and kayaker returned to beach safely. MCA/HMCG No Yes

45900 26/05/2023 NCI Gosport Off duty W/K observed vessel aground. NCI informed HMCG, who were already aware. Skipper had deliberately grounded to relax before reflecting on incoming tide. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45905 26/05/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head NCI heard MayDay in French, man overboard. No response, HMCG informed. CH informed NCI incident was being dealt with by others, NFA. NCI No Yes

45877 22/05/2023 NCI Torbay HMCG requested NCI look for capsized paddle board after report from MOP. Extensive search revealed nothing. No further information was forthcoming - incident closed MCA/HMCG No Yes
45853 21/05/2023 NCI Shoreham Motor vessel called NCI re. 2 people on paddle board, lost the paddle. NCI had visual. HMCG informed, but vessel said they would tow them back to shore. CG informed when all back to safety. NCI No Yes
45854 21/05/2023 NCI Skegness NCI Mablethorpe informed NCI Skegness re. MISPER. Police attended Skegness as a person had been seen nearby. Nothing seen on playback. Casualty reported found elsewhere. NCI No Yes
45862 21/05/2023 NCI Worms Head HMCG requested visual on vessel with power failure - negative. ILB and CRT tasked, but casualty towed back to safety by second vessel. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45867 21/05/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG requested assistance for yachtsman with engine failure and sea sickness. NCI had visual, and had observed vessel earlier. CG advised NCI had visual. AWLB tasked, but passing yacht also offered, assistance. AWLB arrived at casualty, put 2 crew aboard, and tow to meet ILB who completed tow to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45868 21/05/2023 NCI Fleetwood NCI observed 3 MOP + dog cut off by tide. ILB tasked, Jetski arrived and placed child on seat. ILB recovered all casualties, child taken to hospital for check up. NCI Yes Yes
45871 21/05/2023 NCI Porthcawl ILB and Cut tasked to injured surfer. NCI had visual, and were able to conn ILB to casualty. ILB recovered casualty, transferred to CRT, and on to ambulance. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

45838 20/05/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head Fishing vessel reported to HMCG it had engine failure. CG called NCI, who had visual. Vessel taken under tow by passing vessel to harbour, all safe. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45847 20/05/2023 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent MOP asked NCI for assistance with relative who was ill close to station. 999 for ambulance, which could not gain access. HMCG informed, key found, access gained, casualty taken to hospital. NCI No Yes
45849 20/05/2023 NCI Porthcawl HMCG tasked ILB to kayaker struggling against tide. NCI confirmed visual, asked to monitor. ILB reached kayak, but occupant initially refused assistance, but then was brought ashore to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45850 20/05/2023 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 4 MOP + dog cut off by tide. HMCG informed. After attempts to climb cliff, CG tasked ILB, and due to failing light, all were recovered to shore and safety. NCI Yes Yes
45830 19/05/2023 NCI Torbay HMCG requested visual from NCI on vessel reported to be taking on water and had issued MayDay. Visual not possible. AWLB and HELO tasked, sailing vessel also proceeded to location. , Vessel had sunk, but one casualty recovered from water, search for second was ongoing. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

45821 18/05/2023 NCI Rame Head Incomplete Pan Pan heard by NCI. No response from HMCG, NCI phoned CG. Second vessel did Pan Pan relay, yacht requesting tow, engine failure. NCI did not have visual. , Tow arranged by harbour master. NCI No Yes
45824 18/05/2023 NCI Nells Point NCI observed 2 MOP crossing causeway, tide coming in. HMCG tasked CRT, and ILB. Casualties taken on board ILB and returned to shore and safety. Fisherman remained on island. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
