During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

45245 19/03/2023 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent NCI observed fishing vessel sounding horn, waving and flashing lights. HMCG informed. LB tasked. It transpired the vessel was trying to attract attention of friend on the shore. Skipper advised. NCI Yes Yes
45250 19/03/2023 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed, and had phone call from 2 MOP plus dog cut off by tide. One had a panic attack. HMCG informed, ILB tasked and recovered both casualties plus dog. NCI Yes Yes
45275 18/03/2023 NCI Torbay NCI called by harbour master re. RIB which had not returned following a sail race. Vessel sighted by NCI, H.M and club informed. Vessel returned safely to harbour. NCI No No
45240 18/03/2023 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed 2 MOP cut off by tide. HMCG informed. CRT and ILBs tasked. Approach difficult due to sea conditions, so HELO and CRT carried out evacuation, and handed casualties to CRT. All safe. NCI No Yes
45259 18/03/2023 NCI Herne Bay NCI reported large lump of masonry fallen from building close to lookout, lying in promenade. Fire Brigade called as other pieces ready to fall. Promenade, and Watch Station evacuated due to danger., Surveyors report awaited before area declared safe to work in, so Station temporarily closed. NCI No Yes
45234 17/03/2023 NCI Torbay RNLI asked NCI for visual on paddle boarder, reported to be possibly in distress by MOP. HMCG also requested visual. Nothing seen, W/K on scene also saw nothing. Assets stood down, NFA. RNLI Yes Yes
45239 16/03/2023 NCI Portland Bill HMCG requested CRT to investigate report of body in water. NCI offered assistance. AWLB on scene reported it was debris. Assets stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45221 14/03/2023 NCI Teignmouth Local pilot boat heard a faint MayDay from vessel sinking off pier, 4 POB, 2 with lifejackets. Not heard by HMCG or NCI. NCI had no sighting of a vessel off pier, CG informed. ILB, HELO, AWLB tasked., Search negative, called off, assets stood down. Assumed either a wrong call or a hoax. Fire Yes Yes
45218 13/03/2023 NCI Penzance HMCG requested NCI search for a windsurfer and a paddle boarder possibly in trouble. Visual established, CG informed. Both monitored until they eventually reached safety ashore. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45208 12/03/2023 NCI Charmouth NCI heard a broken MayDay message. No station identified. No response, so HMCG advised. Pan Pan issued, 2 LBs tasked to search for possible red kayak. Kayaker observed to come ashore, appeared, exhausted, but unable to link with MayaDay. Incident closed. NCI Yes Yes
45200 11/03/2023 NCI Newhaven NCI observed a paraglider crash into infrastructure surrounding lookout. 999 called as casualty injured. HMCG informed, Police, CRT, Fire, and Ambulance attended. casualty removed in ambulance., Second paraglider then crashed nearby, was helped out of bushes but uninjured. NCI No Yes
45213 11/03/2023 NCI Needles Police requested NCI help to look for possible suicide attempt. HMCG also informed. 2 W/Ks joined search. Nothing found, and casualty found by Police . Police No Yes
45236 10/03/2023 NCI Exmouth NCI observed an unmanned dinghy drifting past lookout. HMCG informed, also harbourmaster. Observation continued, marina advised of position. NCI No Yes
45189 10/03/2023 NCI Prawle Point HMCG informed NCI they had a report of a vessel drifting off headland. Extensive search revealed nothing. Conclusion was it was a false alarm MCA/HMCG No Yes
45190 10/03/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG called NCI re. concern for motor cruiser possible in trouble. Extensive search revealed possible sighting. CRT tasked, then all assets stood down. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45202 09/03/2023 NCI Torbay Car found unattended and unlocked at car park. Possible self harm. CRT tasked, as well as AWLB and ILB, Police HELO also. NCI asked to carry out search. Casualty not found, search ongoing. Fire Yes Yes

45166 03/03/2023 NCI Froward Point Fishing vessel snagged a line while retrieving pots. Pan Pan issued. NCI had visual. UKBF offered assistance, HMCG tasked LB, NCI maintained visual. LB crew cut lines and casualty returned to port., LB escorted casualty to safety. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45115 02/03/2023 NCI Skegness MOP called HMCG re. person in water, kiteboarding nearby. CRT tasked, overheard by NCI. NCI called CG to explain there was no problem. ILB tasked to check. casualty ran off when police approached. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45121 02/03/2023 NCI Calshot Tower HMCG phoned NCI re. yacht aground at river entrance. Casualty identified by NCI. Local LB tasked, casualty refloated and escorted to safety. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45155 02/03/2023 NCI Bembridge CRT informed NCI they were to be called by HMCG re. MOP stuck in mud. Use of Ch 0 authorised. AWLB tasked, NCI to act as Comms relay. Casualty waist deep, ambulance requested. Mud Team tasked., Casualty freed, transported by Y boat to LB. Casualty showed signs of stress, confirmed safe to move, and returned to LB station. 45098 01/03/2023 NCI Filey HMCG informed NCI of a vulnerable person on cliffs, potentially heading towards them. NCI kept a look out for the casualty, but MISPER was found by other agencies. NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
45092 28/02/2023 NCI Porthcawl HMCG requested visual from NCI of an injured surfer. CRT tasked. Visual established, and linked to CG. CRT confirmed casualty was safe, and on way to hospital. MCA/HMCG No Yes
45076 27/02/2023 NCI Fleetwood MOP reported to NCI a distressed dog on the beach. HMCG informed, NCI monitored for one hour, until dog reunited with owner. Water safety advice offered. NCI No Yes
45135 24/02/2023 NCI Mundesley MOP observed on shoreline, in distress, and being restrained by others. CRT and Police on arrive scene, NCI give HMCG visual report. Casualty was restrained and removed to safety Police No Yes
45070 24/02/2023 NCI Canvey Island NCI observed a drifting blue barrel heading towards shipping channel. Reported to HMCG as possible hazard. CG to initiate recovery. NCI No Yes
45035 19/02/2023 NCI Needles RNLI requested assistance from NCI to search for RIB adrift. Casualty identified, HMCG updated, ILB on way. Fishing vessel took casualty under tow, ILB informed. ILB took over tow, CG informed. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
45052 19/02/2023 NCI Felixstowe HMCG called NCI re. possible Paddle Boarder in trouble. Casualty identified, seemed safe and well. ILB and CRT tasked as precaution. CG informed casualty safely on beach, assets stood down., It later transpired that there may be malicious calls about same Paddle Boarder as had happened before, giving false information. 45065 18/02/2023 NCI Skegness MOP reported to NCI a dead Dolphin/Porpoise on beach. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. CRT unable to locate - presumed washed back out to sea. NCI No Yes
45025 17/02/2023 NCI Filey NCI witnessed motor vehicle colliding with lookout door, no injuries or damage. Driver verbally abused W/Ks and moved on. Police informed, enquiries ongoing. NCI No Yes
45046 17/02/2023 NCI Hornsea NCI observed MOP stranded on beach. HMCG informed, camera made available. ILB tasked, HELO on scene also. Casualty was angling, and had enough dry beach to return to safety. NFA NCI Yes Yes
45056 17/02/2023 NCI Canvey Island MayDay relay received from HMCG. Is vessel seen, please inform CG. NCI commenced search, also requested to check log for previous sightings. Nothing found, casualty reported safe and well by CG MCA/HMCG No Yes
45008 16/02/2023 NCI Charmouth MOP called HMCG re. person stuck up cliff. NCI asked to monitor. First casualty descended okay, but second had not moved for 30 minutes. CG declared incident, NCI monitored and casualty self rescued. NCI No Yes
44998 15/02/2023 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP reported to NCI a dog had run over cliff. W/Ks searched for dog, and located it on beach. Owners coat found, and dog reunited with owners. Advised to keep dog on lead. NCI No Yes
