During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

40923 31/01/2022 NCI Swanage HMCG requested NCI assist in search for missing diabetic patient. Police and CRT also involved. Casualty found near home unharmed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40956 31/01/2022 NCI Mundesley MOP reported to NCI that a large part of the sea defences had been damaged, near lifeboat station. HMCG contacted, photos forwarded, local CG visited site. NCI No Yes
40920 30/01/2022 NCI Torbay As NCI were closing down, HMCG asked for visual on Jet Ski reported by MOP. NCI monitored Jet Ski and informed CG small boat had under tow., ILB arrived and escorted both to harbour, all well. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
40858 29/01/2022 NCI Torbay NCI had 'Man Overboard' alert on radar. HMCG asked if NCI had visual - negative. CG called vessel, as did AWLB which had been tasked. It transpired that a dive vessel was showing wrong AIS I/d., Vessel asked to turn off MOB beacon. NCI Yes Yes
40860 29/01/2022 NCI Mablethorpe HMCG requested NCI open station to aid in search for missing person.Police aware. Nothing seen on visual or camera search. Missing person eventually found in Scegness MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
40856 27/01/2022 NCI Shoreham NCI observed objects drifting across harbour entrance. HMCG advised, ILB tasked to investigate. Object was rucksack with helmet. ILB retrieved objects, found passport, and phone. , extensive search revealed nothing, Police attended. NCI Yes Yes
40835 23/01/2022 NCI St Donat's Bay MOP called 999 to report person in water. HMCG HELO then contacted CG requesting assistance retrieving training mannequin. AWLB retrieved mannequin. NCI confirmed this was reported casualty. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
40817 21/01/2022 NCI Fleetwood NCI detected AIS - SART alarm. HMCG informed. Dredger informed CG that it had inadvertently caused alarm while setting AIS. NFA NCI No Yes
40794 17/01/2022 NCI Newhaven HMCG advised NCI that MOP had reported a kayaker overdue. NCI had been monitoring him, and observed him safely reaching beach, identified as person of concern. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40793 16/01/2022 NCI Porthcawl NCI observd 2-3 MOP in danger of being cut off by tide. HMCG informed, and requested NCI continue to monitor. CCTV link established. , 2 casualties observed slowly clambering over rocks, and reached safety. CG informed, NFA NCI No Yes
40795 16/01/2022 NCI Hornsea NCI observed MOP cut off by tide, informed HMCG, who had been asked for help. ILB tasked, took casualties on board and returned them to safety. All well. NCI Yes Yes
40769 15/01/2022 NCI Felixstowe Yacht phoned lookout to report engine failure. Message passed to HMCG who tasked ILB to recover. Yacht advised on correct PanPan procedure. NCI Yes Yes
40777 15/01/2022 NCI Newhaven Advised HMCG of vessel calling on Ch16 to report out of fuel and gave vessel's name and position. HMCG issued PanPan and requested help from any vessel in area. HMCG requested position update., HMCG updated position and repeated request for help. Local workboat took casualty under tow. Advised HMCG when casualty safely at berth in Newhaven Marina. 40778 15/01/2022 NCI Newhaven Reported vessel aground on Seaford beach - gave position. 4 persons safe ashore, vessel in no danger. CRT tasled tp assist. CRT advised HMCG no further assist required, vessel will be refloated at, next high tide. NCI No Yes
40773 15/01/2022 NCI Prawle Point Day angler contacted HMCG with engine failure, requested assistance. NCI had visual. HMCG requested any vessel nearby, and motor cruiser went to casualty. Tow arranged by friend, and cruiser continued, Casualty towed to safety by friend. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40780 14/01/2022 NCI Penzance HMCG passed on report from MoP of vessels in trouble outside Penzance Harbour. Watchkeeper advised no vessels in distress, but two harbour work boats providing support to large barge., Watchkeeper monitoring comms and no indications of any problems. HMCG happy for NCI to monitor till boats back in harbour. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40808 14/01/2022 NCI Porthcawl HMCG requested NCI search for objects in water, reported by MOP. Scan revealed marker buoys and flag. MOP confirmed this was object. NFA. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40755 13/01/2022 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent HMCG requested assistance to find missing person from local care home. NCI Lee undertook a patrol around immediate area. Nothing seen. HMCG reported person had ben located & issued 'stand down'. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40774 13/01/2022 NCI Porthcawl Fishing vessel had engine failure off pier head. NCI had visual and offered assistance to HMCG, with CCTV link. ILB tasked and towed casualty back to harbour MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
40746 10/01/2022 NCI Porthcawl CCTV scan of area revealed small van on fire in estuary car park. No persons visible. NCI contacted Fire & Rescue service and HMCG to report fire. HMCG used camera link to monitor scene. , Fire Brigade extinguished fire, owner on scene, all stood down. NCI No Yes
40740 10/01/2022 NCI Boscastle PanPan heard from yacht reporting that he was 'lost in fog and scared to death'. HMCG contacted NCI Boscastle for weather and sea condition report. AWB tasked to assist. , Casualty reported fog lifting and heading into Padstow. HMCG advised, and shortly after NCI had visual on yacht and AWB. AWB escorted yacht to harbour. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

40745 10/01/2022 NCI Porthcawl HMCG requested visual/cctv search for MoP reported entering sea fully clothed. Reported no one of that description in area, though several surfers sighted. HMCG requested continued monitoring of area., After some time HMCG confirmed initial report mistook surfers for person at risk and stood NCI down, with thanks for assistance. MCA/HMCG No Yes
40723 09/01/2022 NCI Fleetwood 2 persons and 2 dogs in danger of tidal cut-off. HMCG informed. They tasked CRT to attend. Walkers reached safety after wading through waist-deep water. CRT met walkers and provided advice. NCI Yes Yes
40766 08/01/2022 NCI Padstow HMCG requested visual on 2 windsurfers being swept out to sea. Nothing seen. ILB tasked to search. Eventually saw abandoned sail, but no visual on board or surfer. Sail retrieved and returned, to owner waiting on shore. ILB found second surfer paddling across estuary, confirmed everything OK. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
40703 07/01/2022 NCI Felixstowe MOP reported to HMCG paddle boarder possibly in trouble. NCI requested to obtain visual. NCI used CCTV to observe, and see paddle boarder come safely ashore. Incident closed. MCA/HMCG No Yes

40729 06/01/2022 NCI Hornsea MoP reported possible unexploded ordnance on beach and provided What3@ords reference to HMCG and NCI. NCI contacted HMCG to confirm details and provide email photographs to enable action to be taken., NCI stood down once information passed. NCI No Yes
40674 05/01/2022 NCI Calshot Tower Verssel observed to have broken its mooring, drifting to main channel. HMCG informed, ILB tasked. took vessel under tow and returned it to slipway, transferred to SP and was impounded. NCI Yes Yes

40670 02/01/2022 NCI Nare Point MOP reported to off duty NCI W/K dinghy with 5 POB and dog drifting towards rocks. Attempts to start engine and rowing fruitless. Dinghy hit rocks, 3 persons plus dog scrambled ashore. , Safety advice ignored, CRT arrived, AWLB and ILB tasked, dinghy towed back to beach and all occupants reunited NCI Yes Yes

40576 27/12/2021 NCI Nells Point MOP reported to HMCG pile of clothing on beach, no swimmers seen. NCI asked to do visual search, nothing seen. MOP later reported swimmer returned safely and retrieved clothes. MCA/HMCG No Yes
