During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

42310 17/06/2022 NCI Calshot Tower Mayday on Ch16 re. injured jet skier. NCI had visual, gave exact position. Solent rescue nearby, also Police RIB. ILB plus others recovered casualty to beach and ambulance. Mayday cancelled. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
42319 17/06/2022 NCI Polruan NCI contacted by HMCG re. dory with engine failure. W/K kept casualty under observation. Nearby vessel took casualty under tow to harbour and safety. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42270 17/06/2022 NCI Nells Point CRT and ILB tasked to look for missing child. 1 W/K patrolled coast path. Casualty found by lifeguards safe and well. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
42271 17/06/2022 NCI Nells Point NCI observed 2 inflatable kayaks drifting out to sea. HMCG informed. No danger immediately but kept under observation. Attempted to contact with loudhailer. 42829 17/06/2022 NCI Whitstable NCI observed paddle boarder in difficulty, trying to return to shore against wind, and fell off. HMCG informed, ILB tasked and recovered casualty. NCI Yes Yes
42269 16/06/2022 NCI Nells Point NCI reported to HMCG 2 paddle boaters in difficulty. Advised CG of vessels nearby, and pilot boat checked them. Both reported to be well, and they safely self recovered . NCI No Yes
42262 15/06/2022 NCI Calshot Tower MOP complained to NCI re. fishing vessel in restricted area in front of beach huts. HMCG informed, and they passed complaint to VTS for investigation. NCI No Yes
42263 15/06/2022 NCI Bass Point Yacht reported to HMCG a possible Mayday. NCI carried out visual search, NCI had heard nothing. Visual search revealed all vessels in area appeared in order. Incident closed. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42266 15/06/2022 NCI Porthcawl MOP reported to NCI 3 people were cut off by tide. HMCG informed, CCTV link established, ILB tasked. 1 casualty picked up by ILB, others able to climb out. Casualty safely ashore by ILB. NCI Yes Yes

42256 14/06/2022 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent Yacht ran aground while manoeuvring close to shore. HMCG informed. Assistance declined. NCI monitored casualty, which eventually refloated and progressed seaward. NCI No Yes

42264 14/06/2022 NCI Mablethorpe Distressed male approached SM/DSM while station closed, appeared to be under influence of alcohol. Assistance rejected, Police informed. casualty headed for beach. Police arrived at station., Casualty located by Police and were dealing with him. NCI No Yes

42249 12/06/2022 NCI Charmouth Vessel called HMCG on Ch16 to report adrift and no engine. No response, so NCI called CG. 6 POB, all in lifejackets. NCI did not have visual, and comms difficult. Pan Pan declared, LB tasked., 1 POB had head injury, and LB recovered casualty. NCI Yes Yes
42255 12/06/2022 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed yellow object floating in estuary. HMCG informed, ILB tasked to investigate. Object found to be deflated toy dinghy, recovered by ILB. NCI Yes Yes
42232 12/06/2022 NCI Felixstowe Cabin Cruiser observed by NCI aground at entrance to river. Local rescue boat in attendance. Unable to pull vessel free on falling tide. 3 POB and dog removed from casualty, skipper stayed on board., Once completely out of the water, hull was inspected, no damage visible, so expected the vessel would refloated on high tide. 42233 12/06/2022 NCI Felixstowe NCI received call from HMCG re. Police action concerning person threatening to jump off pier. Nothing visible. NCI suggested may be a hoax as area was secure, and tide was out., ILB and CRT investigated, nothing seen and it was decided it was a False Alarm with Malicious Intent', and caller had been located. 42234 12/06/2022 NCI Felixstowe HMCG reported vessel aground. NCI had seen vessel aground but refloated, but it was not that one. Casualty seen on sands, CG informed. 42252 11/06/2022 NCI Gosport Mayday from vessel aground on sands. NCI confirmed visual to HMCG. Vessel unable to help, and casualty happy to wait for tide. Mayday cancelled.ILB checked - all OK. CG checked every 60 mins. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

42221 11/06/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG reported to NCI a power boat, 3 POB, drifting towards rocks. NCI did not have visual, and asked to keep look out. Visual was established, vessel at anchor and not drifting., ILB tasked, proceeded to casualty. Vessel entangled and LB assisted in freeing vessel, having cut anchor. LB towed vessel to safety. 42222 11/06/2022 NCI Hengistbury Head NCI observed canoeist capsize, and unable to get back in. HMCG informed, ILB tasked. NCI then contacted CG to inform them canoeist had beached and was safe. CRT attended, ILB stood down. NCI No Yes
42231 11/06/2022 NCI Needles HMCG heard Mayday call from vessel. NCI asked if they had heard it - negative. After much difficulty establishing identity of casualty, incident was closed by CG. MCA/HMCG No Yes
42228 10/06/2022 NCI Calshot Tower NCI notified HMCG they had visual on vessel in shallow water having lost engine. 1 POB. Vessel then went aground. Local LB tasked, attached ropes but unable to tow off. Decided to retry on tide. , Vessel eventually freed after six hours by LB. NCI Yes Yes

42200 09/06/2022 NCI Skegness NCI observed trail bike being ridden dangerously on beach, close to other beach users. Rider entered surf, fell off, and engine failed to restart. Bike stuck in sand/mud. MOP assisted recovering bike., Police and HMCG informed NCI No Yes

42179 07/06/2022 NCI Prawle Point Motor vessel reported to NCI a drifting tender, with name of vessel logged by NCI previous day. HMCG informed. Harbour authority informed by CG, and owner asked to contact CG. NCI No Yes
42181 07/06/2022 NCI Fleetwood NCI informed HMCG re. 2 walkers about to be cut off by tide. Attempts to hail them failed. CRT and ILB tasked, and casualties returned to safety by ILB. NCI Yes Yes
42246 07/06/2022 NCI Hornsea MOP informed NCI that an elderly lady had collapsed on the beach, and an ambulance had been called. HMCG informed, CRT tasked.Casualty was helped off the beach, and rested on prom., CG observed this on NCI CCTV, and CRT was stood down. Casualty walked away from scene. NCI No Yes
42223 06/06/2022 NCI Felixstowe NCI observed small yacht change course and beach. HMCG informed, CRT tasked.CRT contacted skipper, who had beached deliberately to get provisions. Vessel had just been purchased., Equipment on vessel and fuel levels were inadequate, so harbourmaster towed casualty to boatyard. NCI No Yes
42176 06/06/2022 NCI Torbay NCI overheard a call from HMCG to CRT re. MOP stuck on cliff, hanging onto a tree. Not able to establish visual. Casualty located by Police, and NCI established visual, CG informed. ILB on scene., HELO tasked, CRT reached casualty, and HELO rescued casualty. ILB stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
42229 05/06/2022 NCI Gorleston HMCG phoned NCI to say MOP had reported a paddle boarder in difficulty. NCI established visual, albeit in poor visibility. NCI monitored casualty and established it was a lifeguard, not in difficulty. MCA/HMCG No Yes
