During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

57459 14/06/2026 NCI Charlestown NCI observed 3 girls on island, with the tide rising. HMCG advised, monitoring requested. Casualties attempted to cross, but retreated. 57462 14/06/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP (member of BDA), visited lookout reporting a possibly injured seal, which then swam off. HMCG informed. A further report of seal on beach was received, not moving but alive. Initially CG advised , no action, having contacted BDA. Further report from MOP, Cg agreed to contact BDA. W/K went on foot to assess animal, not very encouraging, BDA updated. It was agreed to take no action. The seal , then re-entered water and swam off. NCI No Yes
57439 14/06/2026 NCI Worms Head HMCG issued a Pan Pan re Fishing Vessel. NCI established visual, and informed CG a second F.V. was alongside. ILB tasked, but due to weight, AWLB also was tasked, to tow casualty. LB towed casualty , to safety of port. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57440 14/06/2026 NCI Needles Yacht issued a Pan pan with engine failure. 8 POB. Called on Ch65 as unable to contact HMCG. NCI called CG with probable visual of casualty, which was then seen under tow from a motor cruiser, CG cancelled ~Pan Pan, all safely under tow. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57445 14/06/2026 NCI Exmouth NCI heard comms from yacht with a fouled prop. HMCG asked NCI for visual, - confirmed. CRT and ILB tasked, and freed casualty. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes

57456 13/06/2026 NCI Nells Point RNLI called NCI requesting a check on people on the Island. 1 person and dog spotted, causeway about to close. HMCG informed. Casualty attempted to cross, ILB tasked, but casualty managed to reach, the shore. Assets stood down. RNLI Yes Yes
57458 13/06/2026 NCI Calshot Tower NCI observed 4 MsOP cut off on a spit. HMCG and activity centre advised. All 4 then waded ashore to safety, without assistance. NCI No Yes
57429 13/06/2026 NCI Fleetwood NCI observed an unaccompanied bicycle surrounded by incoming tide. No person visible nearby. HMCG advised, and tasked CRT to investigate. NCI then observed a person walking to bicycle, and retrieve it, CRT met person to establish details. NCI No Yes
57433 13/06/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head NCI detected a DSC alert, nothing seen on chart plotter. HMCG informed, they had not received it their end. CG decided there was no concern, incident closed. NCI No Yes
57435 13/06/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head A jetski broke down, and ILB was tasked. NCI requested permission to conn the ILB to the casualty, as they were heading in the wrong direction. ILB reached casualty,2 POB and it was towed to safety NCI Yes Yes
57434 13/06/2026 NCI St Donat's Bay NCI observed a rockfall, HMCG informed, and asked the council be informed. No persons were in the area. Council informed NCI No Yes
57438 13/06/2026 NCI Canvey Island MOP informed NCI a dead porpoise/dolphin had been washed ashore. HMCG informed. CRT later identified it as a Sowerby's beaked whale, a rare sighting. NCI No Yes
57454 12/06/2026 NCI Swanage NCI called HMCG with concern for a walker at the base of the cliffs. CRT tasked to investigate, and found no cause for concern. NFA NCI No Yes
57423 12/06/2026 NCI Prawle Point NCI observed a yacht, towing a dinghy, with no-one visible on board for 30 minutes. HMCG informed of concern. ILB was tasked to investigate, but there was no known outcome as station closed. NCI Yes Yes
57427 12/06/2026 NCI Whitstable 2 dinghies, 1 POB each, capsized close to shore. MOP called HMCG. Safety boat from yacht club returned 2 casualties to shore. CG called NCI to check all was well. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57446 12/06/2026 NCI Porthcawl NCI became aware of CRT and ILB being tasked to look for a despondent MOP, NCI offered to assist by searching area by camera. HELO also tasked to search. Police then stood down all assets, , incident over. Police Yes Yes
57410 11/06/2026 NCI Stone Point NCI observed a RIB, 1 POB, drifting towards shipping channel. HMCG informed, monitoring requested. Harbour Masters vessel attended. casualty was towed to safety of harbour. NCI No Yes
57422 11/06/2026 NCI Torbay NCI heard a MOB distress signal, waited 5 minutes, and with no response, called HMCG. CG called 'all vessels' asking them to look out, weather conditions meant NCI could not visualise. Cancelled 2, hours later with no further information. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57420 10/06/2026 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea NCI observed 7 MOP + 2 dogs on beach, in danger of being cut off by tide. HMCG informed, ILB tasked. 5 walkers and dogs made their own way back, and ILB recovered other 2 to safety. NCI Yes Yes
57401 10/06/2026 NCI Fleetwood HMCG asked NCI for visual on 2 MOP notified by Police to be at risk. Visual established at waters edge, tide coming in. CRT and ILB tasked, as casualties about to be cut off by tide. 1 Casualty , appeared to be trying to prevent the other from self harming. Casualties waded ashore, up to chests, one very distressed. It transpired one had attempted suicide, and ran off. Police apprehended, casualty, assets stood down, but police action continued. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57408 10/06/2026 NCI Stone Point NCI observed 2 youths crashing car in beach car park, and drinking from cans. Perpetrators attempted to repair damage. Police informed, and W/K went to car park to retrieve discarded cans. Police , were informed of CCTV footage of incident. NCI No No
57409 10/06/2026 NCI Exmouth HMCG called NCI to request visual on a kite surfer, reported to be in trouble by MOP. Casualty identified, and did not appear to be in difficulty. CG updated. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57416 09/06/2026 NCI Padstow HMCG called NCI asking for visual on a yacht - confirmed and already under observation. Monitoring requested, as HM may have heard a Pan Pan from the vessel. Vessel entered the estuary, HM , updated. HM went to vessel to offer assistance. Vessel had attempted to anchor. HM assisted vessel to anchor safely in estuary, CG updated. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57386 09/06/2026 NCI Cape Cornwall NCI received a call from neighbouring station re slow moving sailing vessel, close to shore. Visual established, no sail deployed and heading through area with pots, and for exposed rocks. HMCG , informed. 57387 09/06/2026 NCI Gwennap Head NCI observed a sailing vessel, 1 POB, too close to shore. Vessel was monitored, and neighbouring NCI station informed. HMCG informed. See I/R 57386 NCI No Yes
57388 09/06/2026 NCI Bass Point NCI observed a vessel had anchored in an exclusion zone for cables. No reply from BT Marine Ops, so informed HMCG. CG contacted vessel, and requested it to move away from cables. NCI No Yes
57389 09/06/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head Police asked NCI to look out for a vulnerable MOP, possibly suicidal.Police HELO and CRT involved in search. Fire Service then also involved in search. After extensive search, assets were moved to a , different area, NCI stood down. Police No Yes
57396 09/06/2026 NCI Rame Head NCI observed a military vessel stationary in the water, and smoking heavily. HMCG informed, monitoring requested. Second military vessel arrived to assist, smoke stopped, casualty was towed back to , base. NCI No Yes
57371 07/06/2026 NCI Felixstowe NCI overheard radio comms tasking ILB to a paddle boarder. NCI had visual, and informed CG there was no sign of distress. LB called NCI for location, and were informed casualty was now ashore. NFA. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57378 07/06/2026 NCI Exmouth A yacht called NCI with engine failure. HMCG and LGs informed. ILB tasked, and casualties taken to safety of marina. NCI Yes Yes
57380 07/06/2026 NCI Shoreham HMCG tasked ILB to a yacht with engine trouble. NCI were tracking vessel by radar. Engine restarted, , then failed again, AWLB tasked. NCI gave position of casualty to CG. LB checked engine, and , restarted it, and vessel proceeded to marina. Assets stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57354 06/06/2026 NCI Bass Point HMCG issued a Pan Pan re. surfers in difficulty. NCI advised CG of adverse weather conditions, no vessels in area on AIS, so rescue would probably be required. A rescue was performed using a beach , life ring, Pan Pan cancelled. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57415 06/06/2026 NCI Padstow HMCG called NCI asking for visual on anyone in difficulty on the coast path. Visual of 2 persons confirmed. CRT tasked, NCI confirmed location. CRT recovered casualty, a walker who had become , exhausted in the weather conditions. MCA/HMCG No Yes

57369 06/06/2026 NCI Porthcawl HMCG initiated a search for a despondent person, Police, ILB and CRT involved. NCI commenced a scan of area, and offered assistance to CG. LBs scanned shore, CRT, Police and NCI searched onshore. , CG were then advised the MISPER had been located safe and well, assets stood down. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57357 05/06/2026 NCI Prawle Point Pan pan issued from a yacht with engine failure, and would need assistance on reaching Plymouth. NCI advised HMCG they had visual on yacht, and were asked to monitor until out of area. Nearby vessel , offered to stay nearby. CG then advised vessel washout of visual area. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57360 05/06/2026 NCI Rame Head A yacht issued a Pan pan - engine failure and little wind. Police launch went to assist. Vessel then reported they had restarted engine, but requested Police launch shadowed then to safety. HMCG asked, NCI to monitor situation, and check weather conditions. Pan Pan was cancelled. 57344 05/06/2026 NCI Gosport HMCG called NCI asking for visual on a windsurfer. Nothing seen. CRT attended lookout, with a photo from informant, showing 2 vessels. CRT asked ILB to speak to occupants of vessels. RIB had been , misidentified as a windsurfer in distress. NFA. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57349 05/06/2026 NCI Exmouth HMCG called NCI asking them to monitor a yacht, apparently aground on an ebbing tide. NVI confirmed the yacht was anchored, 1 POB, no cause for concern. LG on a jetski attended, and confirmed , the casualty was awaiting the tide. Vessel subsequently refloated, CG updated. MCA/HMCG No Yes
