During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

56021 16/01/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head MOP called NCI re. concern for a wing/kite surfer in difficulty. NCI called HMCG and during call, casualty abandoned rig and started swimming ashore with board. Casualty reached shore, CG updated. , No sign of rig which would probably wash up later. NCI No Yes
56023 16/01/2026 NCI Southend HMCG called NCI re. a report of a despondent person on seafront. NCI spotted casualty, CRT and Police on scene, and casualty was removed from beach area. Assets stood down. MCA/HMCG No Yes
56045 16/01/2026 NCI Shoreham NCI observed a 4 man outrigger canoe in difficulty. HMCG informed, ILB tasked Casualty taken in tow by LB, all 4 occupants recovered safely. NFA NCI No Yes
56024 15/01/2026 NCI Gosport HMCG issued a MayDay following DSC alert from vessel. CG asked NCI if they had seen vessel - negative. CG continued MayDay relay. W/Ks stayed on after closing time but nothing to report. MCA/HMCG No Yes
56005 13/01/2026 NCI Newhaven HMCG called NCI re. report of concern for windsurfer by MOP. NCI confirmed visual, with no concerns. NCI then updated CG - casualty back ashore. CRT talked with surfer, who confirmed they intended , going out again, NCI asked to monitor. MCA/HMCG No Yes

55994 12/01/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG asked NCI for visual on a wingfoiler reported to be in difficulty by a MOP. NCI searched but saw nothing as visibility poor. CRT tasked, and reported the casualty had been seen leaving water safe, and well, having self rescued. NFA MCA/HMCG No Yes
55984 10/01/2026 NCI Lyme Bay HMCG called NCI requesting visual of a fallen walker in cliff path. W/K with radio located casualty, CRT also on scene. Ambulance arrived a few minutes later, lookout updated and CG then updated. , Casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance. MCA/HMCG No Yes
55985 10/01/2026 NCI Brancaster NCI observed a large channel buoy washed up on beach. HMCG informed, and asked NCI to contact the National Trust. N.T. representative confirmed the object would be removed next day. CG updated. NCI No Yes
56453 10/01/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head Yacht declared a MayDay having run aground. NCI informed HMCG they had visual. 1 adult and 2 teenagers aboard all with lifejackets. ILB tasked. ILB towed vessel into harbour, MayDay cancelled. NCI Yes Yes
55995 09/01/2026 NCI Mundesley HMCG asked NCI to keep a lookout for a MISPER in nightdress and no shoes. CRT tasked. Casualty was then reported safe at a caravan, assets stood down. MCA/HMCG No Yes
55975 08/01/2026 NCI Swanage NCI observed an orange object washed up on beach.HMCG advised, also told AWLB was in area. LB tasked to investigate. Object found to be a large traffic barrier. Assets stood down. NCI No Yes
55976 08/01/2026 NCI Felixstowe NCI called HMCG re. floating object in river. Possible oil barrel. CRT tasked, and advised object was a pot marker, NFA. NCI No Yes
55958 07/01/2026 NCI Torbay NCI observed a dinghy, apparently drifting, flying red flag with white stripe. HMCG informed. NCI then identified a diver in the water meaning the wrong flag had been flown. Diver reboarded vessel,, CG updated, and discussion was had re flying the correct flag, which would have saved a lot of work. NCI No Yes
55970 07/01/2026 NCI Cleethorpes Coast Ranger informed NCI of a suspected depleted munition on the shore. NCI agreed identification, and informed HMCG. CRT tasked, conned to object by NCI. Item proved to be a used practice round, which was subsequently retained by NCI as a training aid. NCI No Yes
55986 07/01/2026 NCI Nare Point NCI observed a blue floating object, HMCG informed, and local fishing vessels identified. Monitoring requested. CG unable to contact vessels, Object was lost to view, CG updated, and they requested , next watch to be updated in case object came back into view. Object was a barrel from a mussel farm - owner informed, and will organise retrieval. NCI No Yes
55923 04/01/2026 NCI Cleethorpes MOP handed a bone, possibly human, to NCI, found on beach. HMCG informed, advised inform police. Police asked for photos of bone. Police later collected bone, no conclusion at time of report. NCI No Yes
55929 04/01/2026 NCI Ramsgate HMCG called NCI requesting assistance to ILB, searching shoreline for a person reported to have been seen wading into the sea, fully clothed. Nothing seen by NCI or ILB, assets stood down. , Assumed to be person walking along beach on incoming tide. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
55944 04/01/2026 NCI Portland Bill NCI reported to police by 999 6 galloping horses loose on coast path. NCI called a second time, and were told owner had been contacted. Horses were rounded up several hours later. NCI No No

55891 31/12/2025 NCI Newhaven HMCG called NCI requesting visual on a RIB which had lost power. NCI confirmed visual - 2 POB, Pan Pan issued. NCI contacted a nearby vessel by phone, which undertook a tow to the nearest port. , CG updated by NCI as tow proceeded. Casualty turned out to be a day boat. MCA/HMCG No Yes
55907 31/12/2025 NCI Cromer MOP informed NCI a dog was stuck on the cliff. W/K went to investigate. HMCG informed, position given. NCI asked to monitor, owners present. Dog was recovered from cliff, safe and well. CG updated. NCI No Yes
55888 30/12/2025 NCI Lyme Bay HMCG called NCI re. call from MOP of a rock fall. CCTV confirmed the rock fall, and after reviewing the footage, NCI were able confirm no-one was in the immediate vicinity. NFA. MCA/HMCG No Yes
55866 29/12/2025 NCI Southend CI observed marine debris on mud flats, danger to kite surfers or jet skis. HMCG informed, CRT tasked, and guided to object by NCI. The debris, part of a tender, was recovered to beach and secured. NCI No Yes
55875 29/12/2025 NCI Boscastle HMCG called NCIre. report from MOP of concern for an inflatable kayak. Visual requested - NCI had already logged vessel - a dinghy, 1 POB, fishing and no distress, CG updated. Original informant was, updated. NCI confirmed vessel then headed back to harbour. 55882 29/12/2025 NCI Hengistbury Head HMCG called NCI re. report of 2 kayakers in difficulty, but location was 7 miles away. Visibility not great. Nothing seen, next watch also searched, but nothing seen - CG advised of several fishing , vessels in the area. CG informed NCI the kayakers had been seen, paddling normally, and all well. 55889 29/12/2025 NCI Skegness NCI informed HMCG of 2 containers of sulphuric acid washed up on the beach. NCI considered it to be an urgent public health hazard. CG tasked fire brigade, who confirmed they were safe after scrutiny., Containers were recovered for safekeeping by NCI until council collected them. NCI No Yes

55857 26/12/2025 NCI Shoreham HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of a wing surfer possibly in difficulty. NCI had been monitoring them and they appeared okay, but to call if things changed. ILB tasked and found casualty okay. NFA MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
55898 26/12/2025 NCI Ramsgate NCI observed a large container washed up on beach. HMCG informed, CRT tasked. Second CRT team tasked to help. NCI closed for the day, and were informed the Council had been informed. , A later update confirmed the object to be a large mass of toxic palm oil, used by shipping to clean tanks. NCI No Yes
55855 26/12/2025 NCI Southend NCI informed HMCG a cabin cruiser had been washed onto the beach. CRT tasked and confirmed position and details. Hull was intact. Vessel was secured by 3 lines, at the neap high tide mark. NFA NCI No Yes
55853 25/12/2025 NCI Exmouth NCI advised HMCG swimmers on the beach were waving at AWLB. May Day relay confirmed 5 swimmers were caught in a rip current. Out of reach of LB due to sea conditions. CRT and ambulance were, on the scene. 2 further AWLBs and HELO were tasked to join search. 2 casualties reached shore, 1 taken to ambulance, and 2 still were missing when the search was called off by CG. 55843 23/12/2025 NCI Southend HMCG asked NCI for visual on a lone kite surfer - confirmed as he had been under observation and showed signs of tiredness. CG updated, informed casualty has returned to shore. CRT attended and , offered safety advice. MCA/HMCG No Yes
55840 22/12/2025 NCI Chapel Point NCI observed 4 horse riders cantering along beach, when one was thrown from her horse. HMCG informed. Ambulance attended, and casualty was seen to walk off the beach unaided. NFA. NCI No Yes
