During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.


Please note: NCI Canvey Island was previously know as NCI Holehaven and moved location on Monday 18 October 2021. All NCI Canvey Island Incident Summaries before that date will be in respect of NCI Holehaven at its previous location.

57061 15/05/2026 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent A yacht issued a Pan Pan due to engine failure in the main shipping channel. NCI located vessel on CCTV, HMCG informed. A vessel in the area offered a tow. Yacht then appeared to be under way, and , confirmed engine was running fine. After consultation, it was agreed to cancel the Pan Pan, assets stood down. NCI No Yes
57049 14/05/2026 NCI Newhaven HMCG called NCI re. report from MOP of a person sitting near cliff edge. CRT and Police were at the bottom of the cliff. NCI searched area, and located a person close to cliff edge, who then stood up , and walked away. No further sightings, Police attended lookout to confirm findings. NFA. MCA/HMCG No Yes
57054 14/05/2026 NCI Wells-next-the-Sea 2 Mop plus a dog were cut off by incoming tide. They tried to wade back, but dog was terrified. NCI informed HMCG, ILB tasked, and CRT tasked to meet them at shore. ILB recovered casualties, and returned them to safety. NCI Yes Yes
57072 14/05/2026 NCI Torbay HMCG called NCI re. report from a MOP of paddle boarders stuck on a rock. NCI confirmed visual, and had assumed they were waiting for squall to pass. ILB and AWLB tasked, harbour master also , informed. ILB ferried 7 casualties to AWLB, none were wearing lifejackets. LB recovered casualties to harbour, CRT met with them and offered advice. 57036 13/05/2026 NCI Folkestone NCI observed a large black box floating in sea, HMCG informed. Monitoring requested. NCI then lost sight of object, CG updated. NCI No Yes
57037 13/05/2026 NCI Lee-on-the-Solent NCI foot patrol located a person lying, unresponsive on the beach. HMCG informed, casualty then seen to move along the beach. CRT tasked, and contacted casualty, and was taken to an ambulance. NCI No Yes
57040 13/05/2026 NCI Folkestone NCI observed a red box floating in the sea, HMCG informed, monitoring requested. CG said a vessel in area would investigate. NCI lost sight of the object. NCI No Yes
57035 12/05/2026 NCI Porthcawl NCI observed a MOP behaving erratically on beach, and was now on pier. Police had attended. MOP advised NCI the casualty had drunk a considerable quantity of alcohol, and was now threatening to , jump from the pier. HMCG advised. 57028 12/05/2026 NCI Needles NCI observed a yacht aground on bank on an ebbing tide. HMCG informed, casualty also called CG, 2 POB and 1 dog. AWLB tasked, arrived at casualty, and crew went to assess any damage. No , damage was found, casualty happy to wait for incoming tide. Vessel refloated as tide came in, and proceeded on passage. 57016 11/05/2026 NCI Filey NCI observed 4 youths climbing over barrier and onto a roof of a dangerous condemned building. Police advised. Police attended promptly, but youths dispersed. NFA. NCI No No
57026 11/05/2026 NCI Shoreham HMCG called NCI re. report from Fishing vessel of a single kayaker in difficulty. Visual requested, but glare made visual impossible. AWLB tasked, and found casualty to be a paddle boarder fishing. No, assistance needed. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57008 09/05/2026 NCI Gosport May Day relay issued re. one person in the water at harbour entrance. NCI scanned area, HMCG informed. ILB tasked to search area, CG given weather update. Search revealed nothing, so assets , were stood down. A MISPER had been reported previous day by CG. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
57011 09/05/2026 NCI St Agnes Head MOP reported to NCI a dead dog on the coast path. Council informed, but unwilling to climb down cliff to recover body. HMCG informed, RSPCA contacted, but unwilling to get involved. National, Trust were then contacted, as land owners. NCI no longer involved. NCI No Yes
57003 08/05/2026 NCI Portland Bill NCI observed an apparently unmanned yacht, foresail dragging in the water, HMCG informed. A person then appeared in the wheelhouse, CG updated, NCI monitored vessel. NCI No Yes
56999 06/05/2026 NCI Bass Point NCI observed a lone kayaker, no lifejacket, with a dog on his lap. casualty was visibly tiring, W/K used megaphone to ask if he was Ok. HMCG advised, FV unable to help as it was busy. A kayak , expedition, 8 strong, was then contacted, and leader took casualty under tow to safety of harbour. NCI No Yes
56973 04/05/2026 NCI Shoreham NCI observed a RIB approaching harbour, 2 POB, and both persons were thrown overboard into the water, RIB carried on in circles. HMCG informed. A yacht and a second RIB attended, and , recovered casualties to an awaiting ambulance. NCI No Yes

56954 02/05/2026 NCI Bembridge NCO observed a yacht aground, HMCG informed. A private RIB arrived to assist, and attached a line, while NCI were on phone to CG. Yacht was refloated, CG attempted to contact - negative. NCI No Yes
56977 02/05/2026 NCI Froward Point May Day call from a yacht with engine breakdown, but NCI unable to see due to poor visibility. Vessel offered to attend, then NCI established visual - CG updated. NCI monitored situation until , casualty was towed to safety of harbour. MCA/HMCG No Yes

56917 30/04/2026 NCI Exmouth MOP reported suspected unexploded ordnance in estuary to NCI. HMCH informed, photos attempted but impossible due to tide. CRT to be tasked to investigate. NCI No Yes
56933 30/04/2026 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called NCI re. a call from a person threatening self harm. Search requested, nothing seen initially, ILB and CRT tasked. ILB located casualty on rocks close to lookout. Casualty, who was , intoxicated, was reluctant to come off rocks. Police attended, and accompanied casualty to hospital. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
56971 29/04/2026 NCI Hornsea NCI called HMCG re. 2 walkers about to be cut off by tide. CG updated, casualties now totally cut off,.CRT and local Inshore rescue boat tasked. casualties then changed direction, and climbed cliff., CRT met them and offered safety advice. All safe. NCI Yes Yes

57010 29/04/2026 NCI Hengistbury Head NCI heard an SOS message in Morse code. HMCG advised. Pan Pan issued, CRT attended lookout. CG issued radio call asking for any info on message - nothing. Pan Pan cancelled, NFA. NCI No Yes

56885 27/04/2026 NCI Cape Cornwall A passing yacht reported to HMCG a possible body in the water. NCI heard call, and located vessel. Passing military HELO offered assistance, ut declined. NCI asked to monitor, CG HELO and AWLB tasked., HELO recovered body, transferred it to LB, and it was returned to LB station. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
56873 26/04/2026 NCI Boscastle NCI observed items of discarded clothing on cliffs. No-one seen nearby. HMCG informed, who contacted Police. CRT tasked, and decided items were probably lost or forgotten. NFA. NCI No Yes
56875 26/04/2026 NCI Porthcawl HMCG called ILB (on exercise) re. a suspected heart attack on beach. ILB proceeded to location, HELO tasked. NCI monitored situation, and kept CG updated. CRT also in attendance. Casualty was , airlifted to an ambulance and on to hospital. MCA/HMCG Yes Yes
